And they told David, saying, 'Look, the Pelishtim are fighting against Ke'ilah, and they are plundering the threshing floors.'

And David inquired of יהוה, saying, 'Should I go and strike these Pelishtim?' And יהוה said to David, 'Go and strike the Pelishtim, and save Ke'ilah.'

And the men of David said to him, 'Look, we are here in Yehudah, afraid; how much more if we go to Ke'ilah against the armies of the Pelishtim?'

And David again inquired of יהוה, and יהוה answered him, and said, 'Arise, go down to Ke'ilah, for I am giving the Pelishtim into your hand.'

And David and his men went to Ke'ilah, and he fought against the Pelishtim, and he drove off their livestock, and he struck them with a great blow, and David saved the inhabitants of Ke'ilah.

And it happened, when Evyatar son of Aḥimelekh fled to David at Ke'ilah, an ephod came down in his hand.

And it was told to Sha'ul that David had come to Ke'ilah, and Sha'ul said, 'Elohim has delivered him into my hand, for he is shut in, having entered a city with gates and bars.'

And Sha'ul summoned all the people for war, to go down to Ke'ilah to besiege David and his men.

And David knew that Sha'ul was secretly planning evil against him, and he said to Evyatar the kohen, 'Bring the ephod.'

And David said, 'יהוה, Elohim of Yisra'el, your servant has surely heard that Sha'ul is seeking to come to Ke'ilah to destroy the city because of me.'

'Will the men of Ke'ilah deliver me into his hand? Will Sha'ul come down, as your servant has heard? O יהוה, Elohim of Yisra'el, please tell your servant.' And יהוה said, 'He will come down.'

And David said, 'Will the men of Ke'ilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Sha'ul?' And יהוה said, 'They will deliver you.'

And David and his men arose, about six hundred men, and they went out from Ke'ilah and wandered wherever they could. And it was told to Sha'ul that David had escaped from Ke'ilah, and he stopped going out.

And David stayed in the wilderness in the strongholds, and he stayed in the hill country in the wilderness of Zif. And Sha'ul sought him every day, but Elohim did not give him into his hand.

And David saw that Sha'ul had come out to seek his life, and David was in the wilderness of Zif, in the forest.

And Yonatan son of Sha'ul arose and went to David in the forest, and he strengthened his hand in Elohim.

And he said to him, 'Do not fear, for the hand of Sha'ul my father will not find you, and you will reign over Yisra'el, and I will be second to you. And Sha'ul my father also knows this.'

And the two of them made a covenant before יהוה, and David stayed in the forest, and Yonatan went to his house.

And the Zifites came up to Sha'ul at Gibeah, saying, 'Is David not hiding with us in the strongholds, in the forest, at Ḥakilah hill, which is to the south of the desert?'

And now, O king, according to all your soul's desire, come down, and for us, deliver him into the king's hand.'

And Sha'ul said, 'Blessed are you by יהוה, for you have had compassion on me.'

'Go now, prepare yourselves further, and know and see his place where his foot has been, who has seen him there. For he said to me, 'He is surely cunning.''

'And see and know all the hiding places where he hides himself, and return to me with certainty, and I will go with you. And if he is in the land, I will search for him throughout all the thousands of Yehudah.'

And they arose and went to Zif ahead of Sha'ul, and David and his men were in the wilderness of Ma'on, in the Arabah, to the south of the desert.

And Sha'ul and his men went to seek. And it was told to David, and he went down to the rock and stayed in the wilderness of Ma'on. And Sha'ul heard, and he pursued David in the wilderness of Ma'on.

And Sha'ul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain. And David was hurrying to go away from Sha'ul, and Sha'ul and his men were surrounding David and his men to capture them.

And a messenger came to Sha'ul, saying, 'Hurry and go, for the Pelishtim have raided the land.'

And Sha'ul returned from pursuing David, and he went to meet the Pelishtim. For this reason, they called that place the Rock of Divisions.
