And David went from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And his brothers and all his father's house heard, and they went down to him there.

And everyone in distress, and everyone in debt, and everyone discontented gathered to him. And he became leader over them. And about four hundred men were with him.

And David went from there to the lookout of Moav. And he said to the king of Moav, 'Please let my father and my mother go out with you, until I know what Elohim will do for me.'

And he brought them before the king of Moav. And they lived with him all the days David was in the stronghold.

And Gad the prophet said to David, 'You shall not stay in the stronghold. Go and enter the land of Yehudah.' And David went and came to the forest of Hereth.

And Sha'ul heard that David was known, and the men who were with him. And Sha'ul was sitting in Gibeah under the tamarisk tree in Ramah, and his spear was in his hand, and all his servants were standing around him.

And Sha'ul said to his servants who were standing around him, 'Hear now, sons of Binyamin. Will the son of Yishai also give to all of you fields and vineyards? Will he make all of you commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds?'

Because you all conspired against me, and no one informed my ear when my son made a covenant with the son of Yishai, and no one among you is concerned for me, and informed my ear, because my son has incited my servant against me, to lie in wait as this day.'

And Do'eg the Edomite answered, and he was standing over Sha'ul's servants. And he said, 'I saw the son of Yishai come to Nov, to Aḥimelekh son of Aḥituv.'

And he inquired for him from יהוה, and gave him provisions, and gave him the sword of Golyat the Pelishti.'

And the king sent to call Aḥimelekh son of Aḥituv the priest, and all his father's house, the priests who were in Nov. And they all came to the king.

And Sha'ul said, 'Hear now, son of Aḥituv.' And he said, 'Here I am, my Adonai.'

And Sha'ul said to him, 'Why did you conspire against me, you and the son of Yishai, by giving him bread and a sword, and inquiring for him from Elohim, to rise against me to lie in wait as this day?'

And Aḥimelekh answered the king and said, 'And who among all your servants is like David? He is faithful, and the king's son-in-law, and goes at your command, and is honored in your house.'

'Today I began to inquire for him from Elohim. Far be it from me! Let the king not charge anything against his servant, against all his father's house, because your servant knew nothing of all this, small or great.'

And the king said, 'You shall surely die, Aḥimelekh, you and all your father's house.'

And the king said to the runners standing around him, 'Turn and kill the priests of יהוה, because their hand is also with David, and because they knew that he was fleeing, and they did not inform my ear.' And the king's servants refused to stretch out their hands to strike the priests of יהוה.

And the king said to Do'eg, 'Turn, and strike the priests.' And Do'eg the Edomite turned, and he struck the priests. And he killed on that day eighty-five men who wore a linen ephod.

And Nov, the city of the priests, he struck with the edge of the sword, from man to woman, from child to infant, and ox, and donkey, and sheep, with the edge of the sword.

And one son of Aḥimelekh son of Aḥituv escaped, and his name was Evyatar. And he fled after David.

And Evyatar told David that Sha'ul had killed the priests of יהוה.

And David said to Evyatar, 'I knew on that day that Do'eg the Edomite was there, because he would surely tell Sha'ul. I am responsible for all the lives of your father's house.'

'Stay with me; do not fear, because whoever seeks my life seeks your life. For you are under my protection.'
