And it happened when he finished speaking to Sha'ul, that the soul of Yonatan was bound to the soul of David, and Yonatan loved him as his own soul.

And Sha'ul took him on that day and did not let him return to his father's house.

And Yonatan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

And Yonatan took off the robe that was on him and gave it to David, and his garments, and even his sword, and his bow, and his belt.

And David went out in everything that Sha'ul sent him to do, and he prospered. And Sha'ul set him over the men of war, and it was good in the eyes of all the people, and also in the eyes of Sha'ul's servants.

And it happened as they came, when David returned from striking down the Pelishtim, that the women came out from all the cities of Yisra'el, singing and dancing, to meet King Sha'ul, with tambourines, with joy, and with stringed instruments.

And the women who were celebrating answered and said, 'Sha'ul has struck down his thousands, and David his tens of thousands.'

And Sha'ul was very angry, and this matter was bad in his eyes. And he said, 'They have given to David tens of thousands, and to me they have given thousands. And still for him, only the kingdom.'

And Sha'ul watched David from that day and onward.

And it happened the next day that an evil spirit from Elohim rushed upon Sha'ul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house. And David was playing with his hand, day by day, and the spear was in Sha'ul's hand.

And Sha'ul hurled the spear, saying, 'I will strike David and the wall.' And David turned away from him twice.

And Sha'ul feared David, because יהוה was with him, and had departed from Sha'ul.

And Sha'ul removed him from his presence and made him a commander of a thousand, and he went out and came in before the people.

And David was prospering in all his ways, and יהוה was with him.

And Sha'ul saw that he was prospering greatly, and he feared him.

And all Yisra'el and Yehudah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.

And Sha'ul said to David, 'Behold, my older daughter Merav, I will give her to you as a wife. Only be to me a man of valor, and fight the battles of יהוה.' But Sha'ul said, 'Let not my hand be on him, but let the hand of the Pelishtim be on him.'

And David said to Sha'ul, 'Who am I, and who is my life, my father's family in Yisra'el, that I should become a son-in-law to the king?'

And it happened at the time of giving Merav, Sha'ul's daughter, to David, that she was given to Adriel the Meholathite as a wife.

And Mikhal, Sha'ul's daughter, loved David, and they told Sha'ul, and the matter was pleasing in his eyes.

And Sha'ul said, 'I will give her to him, and she will be a snare to him, and the hand of the Pelishtim will be on him.' And Sha'ul said to David, 'With two hundred foreskins of the Pelishtim you will become my son-in-law today.'

And Sha'ul commanded his servants, saying secretly to David, 'Behold, the king delights in you, and all his servants love you. Now, become the king's son-in-law.'

And Sha'ul's servants spoke these words in David's ears. And David said, 'Is it a small thing in your eyes to become the king's son-in-law, and I am a poor and insignificant man?'

And Sha'ul's servants told him, saying, 'With words like these, David spoke.'

And Sha'ul said, 'Thus you shall say to David, The king does not desire a bride price, but one hundred foreskins of the Pelishtim, to take vengeance on the king's enemies.' And Sha'ul planned to cause David to fall by the hand of the Pelishtim.

And his servants told David these words. And the matter was pleasing in David's eyes to become the king's son-in-law, and the days were not yet fulfilled.

And David arose and went, he and his men, and struck down two hundred of the Pelishtim. And David brought their foreskins, and they were given to the king as a bride price to become the king's son-in-law. And Sha'ul gave him Mikhal his daughter as a wife.

And Sha'ul saw and knew that יהוה was with David, and Mikhal, Sha'ul's daughter, loved him.

And Sha'ul feared David even more from that day onward, and Sha'ul was David's enemy all the days.

And the commanders of the Pelishtim went out. And it happened, whenever they went out, David prospered more than all of Sha'ul's servants, and his name became very precious.
