And the Pelishtim gathered their camps for war, and they gathered to Sokoh which belongs to Yehudah, and they encamped between Sokoh and between Azekah, in Efes-Dammim.

And Sha'ul and the men of Yisra'el gathered, and they encamped in the valley of Elah, and they arrayed for war against the Pelishtim.

And the Pelishtim stood on the mountain from this side, and Yisra'el stood on the mountain from that side, and the valley was between them.

And a man came out from the camps of the Pelishtim, Goliath his name, from Gath; his height was six cubits and a span.

And a helmet of bronze was on his head, and he wore a coat of mail, and the weight of the coat of mail was five thousand shekels of bronze.

And greaves of bronze were on his legs, and a javelin of bronze between his shoulders.

And the shaft of his spear was like a weaver's beam, and the head of his spear weighed six hundred shekels of iron, and the shield-bearer went before him.

And he stood and called to the ranks of Yisra'el, and he said to them, 'Why do you come out to array for war? Am I not the Pelishti, and you are servants to Sha'ul? Choose for yourselves a man, and let him come down to me.'

'If he is able to fight with me and strike me down, then we will be your servants, but if I am able to overcome him and strike him down, then you will be our servants and you will serve us.'

And the Pelishti said, 'I have taunted the ranks of Yisra'el today. Give me a man, and let us fight together.'

And Sha'ul and all Yisra'el heard these words of the Pelishti, and they were dismayed and feared greatly.

And David was the son of this man of Efrayim, from Bethlehem of Yehudah, and his name was Yishai, and he had eight sons, and the man in the days of Sha'ul was old, advanced in years.

And the three oldest sons of Yishai went after Sha'ul to war, and the names of his three sons who went to war were Eliab the firstborn, and second Abinadab, and the third Shammah.

And David was the youngest, and the three oldest went after Sha'ul.

And David went back and forth from Sha'ul to tend the sheep of his father in Bethlehem.

And the Pelishti approached morning and evening, and he stood for forty days.

And Yishai said to David his son, 'Please take for your brothers an ephah of this roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread, and hurry to the camp to your brothers.'

'And take these ten portions of cheese to the commander of the thousand, and check on your brothers for peace, and take their security.'

And Sha'ul and they and all the men of Yisra'el were in the valley of Elah fighting with the Pelishtim.

And David rose early in the morning, and he left the sheep with a guardian, and he took and went as Yishai commanded him, and he came to the camp, and the army that was going out to the battle line, and they shouted in the war.

And Yisra'el and the Pelishtim arrayed a battle line opposite a battle line.

And David left the supplies from himself by the hand of the guardian of the supplies, and he hurried to the battle line, and he came and asked his brothers for peace.

And he was speaking with them, and behold, the man, the giant, Goliath the Pelishti, his name, from Gath, from the camps of the Pelishtim, came up, and he spoke these words, and David heard.

And all the men of Yisra'el, when they saw the man, fled from him and feared greatly.

And a man of Yisra'el said, 'Have you seen this man who is coming up? He has come up to taunt Yisra'el. And it will be that the man who strikes him down, the king will enrich him with great riches, and he will give him his daughter, and he will make his father's house free in Yisra'el.'

And David said to the men standing with him, saying, 'What will be done to the man who strikes down this Pelishti and removes the reproach from Yisra'el? For who is this uncircumcised Pelishti that he has taunted the ranks of the living Elohim?'

And the people said to him, according to this matter, saying, 'This is what will be done to the man who strikes him down.'

And Eliab his older brother heard when he spoke to the men, and Eliab's anger burned against David, and he said, 'Why did you come down, and to whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your presumption and the evil of your heart, for to see the war you have come down.'

And David said, 'What have I done now? Is it not a matter?'

And he turned from him to another, and he said the same thing, and the people answered him the same way as the first time.

And the words that David spoke were heard, and they told them before Sha'ul, and he took him.

And David said to Sha'ul, 'Let no man's heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Pelishti.'

And Sha'ul said to David, 'You cannot go to this Pelishti to fight with him, for you are a youth, and he is a man of war from his youth.'

And David said to Sha'ul, 'Your servant was a shepherd for his father among the sheep, and a lion came, and a bear, and took a lamb from the flock.'

And I went out after it, and I struck it, and I rescued from its mouth, and it rose against me, and I seized its beard, and I struck it and killed it.

Both the lion and the bear your servant struck down, and this uncircumcised Pelishti will be like one of them, for he has taunted the ranks of the living Elohim.

And David said, 'יהוה who delivered me from the hand of the lion and from the hand of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Pelishti.' And Sha'ul said to David, 'Go, and יהוה will be with you.'

And Sha'ul clothed David with his garments, and he put a helmet of bronze on his head, and he clothed him with a coat of mail.

And David girded his sword over his garments, and he tried to walk, for he had not tested them, and David said to Sha'ul, 'I cannot walk with these, for I have not tested them.' And David removed them from himself.

And he took his staff in his hand, and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the stream, and he put them in the shepherd's bag that was his, and in his sling, and the sling was in his hand, and he approached the Pelishti.

And the Pelishti went, going and drawing near to David, and the man carrying the shield was before him.

And the Pelishti looked and saw David, and he despised him, for he was a youth, ruddy, and handsome in appearance.

And the Pelishti said to David, 'Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?' And the Pelishti cursed David by his elohim.

And the Pelishti said to David, 'Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky and to the beasts of the field.'

And David said to the Pelishti, 'You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of יהוה of hosts, the Elohim of the armies of Yisra'el, whom you have taunted.'

'Today יהוה will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down, and I will remove your head from you, and I will give the corpses of the camp of the Pelishtim today to the birds of the sky and to the wild beasts of the earth, and all the earth will know that there is an Elohim for Yisra'el.'

'And all this assembly will know that יהוה does not save with sword and spear, for the war belongs to יהוה, and He will give you into our hands.'

And it happened that when the Pelishti rose and went and drew near to meet David, David hurried and ran to the battle line to meet the Pelishti.

And David sent his hand to the bag, and he took from there a stone, and he slung it, and he struck the Pelishti on his forehead, and the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the ground.

And David prevailed over the Pelishti with the sling and with the stone, and he struck the Pelishti and killed him, and there was no sword in David's hand.

And David ran and stood over the Pelishti, and he took his sword, and he drew it from its sheath, and he killed him with it, and he cut off his head with it. And the Pelishtim saw that their mighty one was dead, and they fled.

And the men of Yisra'el and Yehudah arose and shouted, and they pursued the Pelishtim until you come to the valley, and until the gates of Ekron. And the fallen of the Pelishtim fell on the road to Sha'arayim, and as far as Gath, and as far as Ekron.

And the sons of Yisra'el returned from chasing after the Pelishtim, and they plundered their camps.

And David took the head of the Pelishti and brought it to Yerushalayim, and he put his armor in his tent.

And when Sha'ul saw David going out to meet the Pelishti, he said to Abner, the commander of the army, 'Whose son is this youth, Abner?' And Abner said, 'As your life lives, O king, if I know.'

And the king said, 'You ask, whose son is this young man?'

And when David returned from striking down the Pelishti, Abner took him and brought him before Sha'ul, and the head of the Pelishti was in his hand.

And Sha'ul said to him, 'Whose son are you, young man?' And David said, 'I am the son of your servant Yishai of Bethlehem.'
