And it came to pass, the day, and Yonatan son of Sha'ul said to the servant carrying his weapons, 'Come, and let us cross over to the camp of the Pelishtim, which is across there,' but to his father he did not tell.

And Sha'ul was sitting at the edge of the hill, under the pomegranate tree which is in Migron, and the people who were with him were about six hundred men.

And Ahiyah son of Aḥituv, brother of Ikabod, son of Pineḥas, son of Eli, the priest of יהוה in Shiloh, was carrying an ephod, and the people did not know that Yonatan had gone.

And between the crossings, which Yonatan was seeking to cross to the camp of the Pelishtim, was a cliff-face on this side, and a cliff-face on that side, and the name of the one was Boṣets and the name of the other was Senneh.

The one cliff-face was steep toward the north opposite Mikmash, and the other was toward the south opposite Giv'ah.

And Yonatan said to the servant carrying his weapons, 'Come, and let us cross over to the camp of these uncircumcised ones; perhaps יהוה will act for us, for there is no restraint for יהוה to save by many or by few.'

And the servant carrying his weapons said to him, 'Do all that is in your heart; turn yourself, behold, I am with you according to your heart.'

And Yonatan said, 'Behold, we will cross over to the men, and we will reveal ourselves to them.'

'If they say to us, 'Stand still until we come to you,' and we will stand in our place, and we will not go up to them.'

'But if they say, 'Come up against us,' then we will go up, for יהוה has given them into our hand, and this is the sign for us.'

And the two revealed themselves to the camp of the Pelishtim, and the Pelishtim said, 'Behold, Hebrews are coming out from the holes where they were hiding.'

And the men of the outpost answered Yonatan and the servant carrying his weapons, and they said, 'Come up to us, and we will make known to you a matter.' And Yonatan said to the servant carrying his weapons, 'Come up after me, for יהוה has given them into the hand of Yisra'el.'

And Yonatan climbed up on his hands and on his feet, and the servant carrying his weapons after him, and they fell before Yonatan, and the servant carrying his weapons was killing them after him.

And the first slaughter, which Yonatan and the servant carrying his weapons made, was about twenty men, like within half a furrow of a field.

And there was a panic in the camp, in the field, and in all the people of the outpost, and the raiders also panicked, and the land trembled, and it was a panic from Elohim.

And Sha'ul's lookouts saw in Giv'at Binyamin, and behold, the multitude was melting away, and they went here and there.

And Sha'ul said to the people who were with him, 'Take a count, and see who has gone from us.' And they took a count, and behold, Yonatan and the servant carrying his weapons were not there.

And Sha'ul said to Aḥiyah, 'Bring the ark of Elohim,' for the ark of Elohim was there on that day with the sons of Yisra'el.

And it came to pass, while Sha'ul was speaking to the priest, that the multitude in the camp of the Pelishtim was going and increasing. And Sha'ul said to the priest, 'Withdraw your hand.'

And Sha'ul and all the people who were with him cried out, and they came to the battle, and behold, the sword of one was against his neighbor, a very great confusion.

And the Hebrews had been with the Pelishtim, like yesterday and the day before, who had come up with them in the camp all around, and they too were with Yisra'el who were with Sha'ul and Yonatan.

And all the men of Yisra'el who were hiding in the hill country of Efrayim heard that the Pelishtim had fled, and they also pursued them in the battle.

And יהוה saved on that day Yisra'el, and the battle went beyond Beit Aven.

And the men of Yisra'el were distressed on that day, and Sha'ul adjured the people, saying, 'Cursed is the man who eats bread until evening, and I will take vengeance on my enemies.' And all the people tasted no bread.

And all the land came into the forest, and behold, there was honey on the face of the field.

And the people came into the forest, and behold, honey was flowing, but no one reached his hand to his mouth, for the people feared the oath.

And Yonatan had not heard when his father adjured the people, and he stretched out the end of the staff that was in his hand, and dipped it in the honeycomb, and brought his hand to his mouth, and his eyes lit up.

And one of the people answered and said, 'Your father adjured the people, saying, 'Cursed is the man who eats bread today,' and the people were weary.

And Yonatan said, 'My father has troubled the land. Behold, my eyes have lit up because I tasted a little of this honey.'

'If only the people had eaten today of the spoil of their enemies which they found! For now, the slaughter among the Pelishtim would not have been great.'

And they struck the Pelishtim on that day from Mikmash to Ayalon, and the people were very weary.

And the people rushed to the spoil, and they took sheep and cattle and calves, and slaughtered them on the ground, and the people ate with the blood.

And they told Sha'ul, saying, 'Behold, the people are sinning against יהוה by eating with the blood.' And he said, 'You have acted treacherously. Roll a great stone to me today.'

And Sha'ul said, 'Scatter among the people, and say to them, 'Bring to me each his ox and each his sheep, and slaughter them here, and eat, and do not sin against יהוה by eating with the blood.'' And all the people brought each his ox in his hand that night, and they slaughtered there.

And Sha'ul built an altar to יהוה; it was the first he began to build, an altar to יהוה.

And Sha'ul said, 'Let us go down after the Pelishtim by night, and let us plunder them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man among them.' And they said, 'Do whatever is good in your eyes.' And the priest said, 'Let us draw near here to Elohim.'

And Sha'ul inquired of Elohim, 'Shall I go down after the Pelishtim? Will you give them into the hand of Yisra'el?' But He did not answer him on that day.

And Sha'ul said, 'Draw near here, all you leaders of the people, and know and see by what this sin has occurred today.'

For as יהוה lives, the one who saves Yisra'el, if it is in Yonatan my son, then he shall surely die.' But no one from all the people answered him.

And he said to all Yisra'el, 'You shall be on one side, and I and Yonatan my son will be on one side.' And the people said to Sha'ul, 'Do what is good in your eyes.'

And Sha'ul said to יהוה, Elohei Yisra'el, 'Give a sign,' and Yonatan and Sha'ul were captured, and the people went out.

And Sha'ul said, 'Cast lots between me and Yonatan my son,' and Yonatan was captured.

And Sha'ul said to Yonatan, 'Tell me, what have you done?' And Yonatan told him and said, 'I tasted a little honey with the end of the staff that was in my hand; behold, I will die.'

And Sha'ul said, 'May Elohim do so and so, for you shall surely die, Yonatan.'

And the people said to Sha'ul, 'Shall Yonatan die, who has accomplished this great salvation in Yisra'el? Far be it! As יהוה lives, not one hair of his head shall fall to the ground, for he has acted with Elohim today.' And the people redeemed Yonatan, and he did not die.

And Sha'ul went up from pursuing the Pelishtim, and the Pelishtim went to their place.

And Sha'ul took the kingship over Yisra'el, and he fought all around against all his enemies, against Mo'av, and against the sons of 'Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Tsavah, and against the Pelishtim, and against all who turned to him, he struck them.

And he acted with strength and struck 'Amalek, and he rescued Yisra'el from the hand of their plunderers.

And Sha'ul's sons were Yonatan, and Yishvi, and Malkishu'a, and the name of his two daughters, the name of the older was Merav, and the name of the younger was Mikhal.

And the name of Sha'ul's wife was Aḥino'am daughter of Aḥima'ats, and the name of the commander of his army was Aviner son of Ner, Sha'ul's uncle.

And Kiš was Sha'ul's father, and Ner was Aviner's father, son of Aviel.

And the war was fierce against the Pelishtim all the days of Sha'ul, and Sha'ul saw every mighty man and every valiant man, and he gathered them to himself.
