And Shemu'el said to all Yisra'el, 'Look, I have listened to your voice in all that you said to me, and I have appointed a king over you.'

'And now, look, the king walks before you, and I am old and gray, and my sons, look, they are with you. And I have walked before you from my youth until this day.'

'Here I am, testify against me before יהוה and before His anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? And whom have I oppressed? Whom have I wronged? And from whose hand have I taken a bribe, and I will hide my eyes from it? And I will return it to you.'

And they said, 'You have not oppressed us, nor wronged us, nor taken anything from the hand of any man.'

And he said to them, 'יהוה is a witness against you, and His anointed is a witness this day, that you have not found anything in my hand.' And they said, 'He is a witness.'

And Shemu'el said to the people, 'It is יהוה who made Mosheh and Aharon, and who brought up your fathers from the land of Mitsrayim.'

'And now, stand still, and I will contend with you before יהוה concerning all the righteous deeds of יהוה which He did to you and to your fathers.'

'When Ya'aqov came to Mitsrayim, and your fathers cried out to יהוה, and יהוה sent Mosheh and Aharon, and they brought out your fathers from Mitsrayim, and they settled them in this place.'

'And they forgot יהוה their Elohim, and He sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the army of Ḥatsor, and into the hand of the Pelishtim, and into the hand of the king of Mo'av, and they fought against them.'

'And they cried out to יהוה, and said, 'We have sinned, because we have forsaken יהוה and served the Ba'alim and the 'Ashtarot. And now, deliver us from the hand of our enemies, and we will serve You.''

'And יהוה sent Yeruba'al, and Bedan, and Yiftah, and Shemu'el, and delivered you from the hand of your enemies all around, and you lived securely.'

'And you saw that Nahash, king of the sons of 'Ammon, came against you, and you said to me, 'No, but a king shall reign over us,' and יהוה your Elohim is your king.'

'And now, look, the king whom you chose, whom you asked for, and look, יהוה has given a king over you.'

'If you will fear יהוה and serve Him and listen to His voice, and you will not rebel against the command of יהוה, then both you and the king who reigns over you will follow יהוה your Elohim.'

'But if you will not listen to the voice of יהוה, and you rebel against the command of יהוה, then the hand of יהוה will be against you and against your fathers.'

'Even now, stand still and see this great thing that יהוה is doing before your eyes.'

'Is it not wheat harvest today? I will call to יהוה, and He will send thunder and rain, and know and see that your evil is great, which you have done in the eyes of יהוה by asking for yourselves a king.'

'And Shemu'el called to יהוה, and יהוה sent thunder and rain on that day, and all the people greatly feared יהוה and Shemu'el.'

'And all the people said to Shemu'el, 'Pray for your servants to יהוה your Elohim, and do not die, for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask for ourselves a king.'

'And Shemu'el said to the people, 'Do not fear. You have done all this evil. However, do not turn away from following יהוה, and serve יהוה with all your heart.'

'And do not turn away, for they are after futility, which does not profit and does not deliver, for they are futility.'

'For יהוה will not forsake His people, for the sake of His great name, because יהוה has been pleased to make you His people.'

'As for me, far be it from me to sin against יהוה by ceasing to pray for you, and I will instruct you in the good and right way.'

'Only fear יהוה and serve Him in truth with all your heart, for see what great things He has done with you.'

'But if you do evil, both you and your king will be destroyed.'
