And it happened after these matters, a vineyard was to Navot the Yizre'elite, which was in Yizre'el, beside the palace of Ahab king of Shomron.

And Ahab spoke to Navot, saying, 'Give me your vineyard, and let it be to me for a garden of vegetables, because it is near my house. And I will give you a vineyard better than it; if it is good in your eyes, I will give you silver, its price.'

And Navot said to Ahab, 'Far be it from me from יהוה, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to you.'

And Ahab came into his house, sullen and angry because of the matter which Navot the Yizre'elite had spoken to him, and he said, 'I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.' And he lay down on his bed and turned his face, and did not eat bread.

And Yizre'el, his wife, came to him and spoke to him, saying, 'Why is your spirit so sullen, and you do not eat bread?'

And he spoke to her, 'Because I spoke to Navot the Yizre'elite and said to him, 'Give me your vineyard for silver, or if you wish, I will give you a vineyard in its place.' And he said, 'I will not give you my vineyard.''

And Yizre'el, his wife, said to him, 'You now will act as king over Yisra'el. Arise, eat bread, and let your heart be good. I will give you the vineyard of Navot the Yizre'elite.'

And she wrote letters in the name of Ahab and sealed them with his seal, and she sent letters to the elders and to the nobles who were inhabitants in his city, with Navot.

And she wrote in the letters, saying, 'Proclaim a fast, and seat Navot at the head of the people.'

And seat two men, sons of worthlessness, opposite him, and let them testify against him, saying, 'You have cursed Elohim and the king.' And let them take him out and stone him, and he will die.'

And the men of his city, the elders and the nobles who were inhabitants in his city, did as Yizre'el had sent to them, as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them.

They proclaimed a fast and seated Navot at the head of the people.

And the two men, sons of worthlessness, came and sat opposite him. And the men of worthlessness testified against Navot before the people, saying, 'Navot has cursed Elohim and the king.' And they took him out of the city and stoned him with stones, and he died.

And they sent to Yizre'el, saying, 'Navot has been stoned, and he has died.'

And it happened when Yizre'el heard that Navot had been stoned and had died, that Yizre'el said to Ahab, 'Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Navot the Yizre'elite, which he refused to give you for silver, because Navot is not alive, but dead.'

And it happened when Ahab heard that Navot was dead, that Ahab arose to go down to the vineyard of Navot the Yizre'elite to take possession of it.

And the word of יהוה came to Eliyahu the Tishbite, saying:

'Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Yisra'el, who is in Shomron. Behold, he is in the vineyard of Navot, where he has gone down to take possession of it.'

'And you shall speak to him, saying, 'Thus says יהוה, 'Have you murdered, and also taken possession?' And you shall speak to him, saying, 'Thus says יהוה, 'In the place where the dogs licked the blood of Navot, the dogs will lick your blood, even yours.''

And Ahab said to Eliyahu, 'Have you found me, my enemy?' And he said, 'I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do evil in the eyes of יהוה.'

'Behold, I am bringing evil upon you, and I will cut off from Ahab every male, one who urinates on a wall, and one who is shut in and one who is left free in Yisra'el.'

'And I will make your house like the house of Yarov'am son of Nevat, and like the house of Ba'sha son of Aḥiyyah, because of the provocation with which you have provoked, and you have sinned against Yisra'el.'

'And also concerning Yizre'el, יהוה spoke, saying, 'The dogs will eat Yizre'el in the field of Yizre'el.''

'He who dies to Ahab in the city, the dogs will eat, and he who dies in the field, the birds of the sky will eat.'

'But there was no one like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of יהוה, whom Yizre'el his wife incited.'

'And he acted very detestably by going after idols, according to all that the Emori did, whom יהוה dispossessed from before the children of Yisra'el.'

'And it happened when Ahab heard these words, that he tore his clothes and put sackcloth on his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and walked about sadly.'

'And the word of יהוה came to Eliyahu the Tishbite, saying:'

'Have you seen how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days; in the days of his son I will bring the evil upon his house.'
