And the days of David were drawing near to die, and he commanded Shelomoh his son, saying:

I am going in the way of all the earth, and you will be strong and become a man.

And you will keep the charge of יהוה your Elohim, to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the Torah of Mosheh, so that you may prosper in all that you do and in all that you turn toward.

So that יהוה may establish His word which He spoke concerning me, saying, 'If your sons watch their way, to walk before Me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, saying, 'There shall not be cut off from you a man from the throne of Yisra'el.''

And also you know what Yo'av the son of Tsruyah did to me, what he did to two captains of the armies of Yisra'el, to Avner the son of Ner, and to 'Amassa the son of Yeter. He killed them, and he shed the blood of war in peacetime, and he put the blood of war on his belt which was on his waist and on his sandals which were on his feet.

And you will do according to your wisdom, and you will not bring his gray hairs down to She'ol in peace.

And to the sons of Barzillai the Gil'adi you will show kindness, and they will be among those who eat at your table, for they came near to me when I fled from Absalom your brother.

And behold, Shim'i the son of Gera, the son of Binyamin, from Bahurim, is with you. And he cursed me with a bitter curse on the day I went to Mahana'im, and he came down to meet me at the Yarden, and I swore to him by יהוה, saying, 'I will not put you to death by the sword.'

And now, do not acquit him, for you are a wise man, and you will know what you should do to him, and you will bring his gray hairs down with blood to She'ol.

And David lay down with his fathers, and he was buried in the city of David.

And the days that David reigned over Yisra'el were forty years; in Hebron he reigned seven years, and in Yerushalayim he reigned thirty-three years.

And Shelomoh sat on the throne of David his father, and his kingdom was greatly established.

And Adoniyah the son of Ḥaggit came to Bath-Sheva, the mother of Shelomoh, and she said, 'Is your coming in peace?' And he said, 'Peace.'

And he said, 'I have something to say to you.' And she said, 'Speak.'

And he said, 'You know that the kingdom was mine, and all Yisra'el set their faces on me to reign, but the kingdom turned and became my brother's, for it was from יהוה for him.'

And now, I ask one request of you; do not turn away my face.' And she said to him, 'Speak.'

And he said, 'Speak, please, to King Shelomoh, for he will not turn away your face, and he will give me Avishag the Shunammite as a wife.'

And Bath-Sheva said, 'It is good; I will speak for you to the king.'

And Bath-Sheva came to King Shelomoh to speak to him concerning Adoniyah. And the king rose to meet her, and he bowed to her, and he sat on his throne, and he set a throne for the king's mother, and she sat on his right.

And she said, 'I ask one small request of you; do not turn away my face.' And the king said to her, 'Ask, my mother, for I will not turn away your face.'

And she said, 'Let Avishag the Shunammite be given to Adoniyah my brother as a wife.'

And King Shelomoh answered and said to his mother, 'And why do you ask for Avishag the Shunammite for Adoniyah? Ask also for him the kingdom, for he is my older brother, and for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Yo'av the son of Tsruyah.'

And King Shelomoh swore by יהוה, saying, 'May Elohim do so to me and more also, for Adoniyah has spoken this word against his own life.'

And now, as יהוה lives, who has established me and seated me on the throne of David my father, and who has made me a house as He spoke, today Adoniyah shall surely be put to death.'

And King Shelomoh sent, and he commissioned Benayahu the son of Yehoyada, and he struck him, and he died.

And to Abiathar the priest the king said, 'To Anathoth, go to your fields, for you are a man of death. But today I will not put you to death, because you carried the Ark of Adonai יהוה before David my father, and because you were afflicted in all that my father was afflicted.'

And Shelomoh removed Abiathar from being priest to יהוה, to fulfill the word of יהוה which He spoke concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

And the report came to Yo'av, for Yo'av had sided with Adoniyah, but he had not sided with Absalom. And Yo'av fled to the tent of יהוה and grasped the horns of the altar.

And it was told to King Shelomoh that Yo'av had fled to the tent of יהוה, and behold, he is by the altar. And Shelomoh sent Benayahu the son of Yehoyada, saying, 'Go, strike him.'

And Benayahu came to the tent of יהוה and said to him, 'Thus says the king: Go out.' And he said, 'No, but here I will die.' And Benayahu brought back word to the king, saying, 'Thus spoke Yo'av, and thus he answered me.'

And the king said to him, 'Do as he has spoken, and strike him, and bury him, and you will remove the innocent blood which Yo'av shed from me and from my father's house.'

And יהוה will return his blood on his head, because he struck two men more righteous and better than he, and killed them with the sword, and my father David did not know of Avner the son of Ner, captain of the army of Yisra'el, and of 'Amassa the son of Yeter, captain of the army of Yehudah.

And their blood will return on the head of Yo'av and on the head of his offspring forever, and to David and to his offspring, and to his house, and to his throne, there will be peace forever from יהוה.

And Benayahu the son of Yehoyada went up and struck him, and killed him, and he was buried in his house in the desert.

And the king appointed Benayahu the son of Yehoyada over the army in his place, and the king appointed Tsadoq the priest in place of Abiathar.

And the king sent and summoned Shim'i, and said to him, 'Build yourself a house in Yerushalayim, and dwell there, and do not go out from there anywhere.'

And it will be on the day you go out and cross the brook of Kidron, know for sure that you will surely die, and your blood will be on your head.'

And Shim'i said to the king, 'The word is good; as my Adonai the king has spoken, so will your servant do.' And Shim'i dwelt in Yerushalayim for many days.

And it came to pass at the end of three years, that two servants of Shim'i fled to Akish the son of Ma'akah, king of Gath, and they told Shim'i, saying, 'Behold, your servants are in Gath.'

And Shim'i arose and saddled his donkey, and went to Gath to Akish to seek his servants, and Shim'i went and brought his servants from Gath.

And it was told to Shelomoh that Shim'i had gone from Yerushalayim to Gath and returned.

And the king sent and summoned Shim'i and said to him, 'Did I not make you swear by יהוה and warn you, saying, 'On the day you go out and go anywhere, you will surely know that you will die'? And you said to me, 'The word I heard is good.''

And why did you not keep the oath of יהוה and the commandment which I commanded you?

And the king said to Shim'i, 'You know all the evil which your heart knew, which you did to David my father, and יהוה will return your evil on your head.'

And King Shelomoh will be blessed, and the throne of David will be established before יהוה forever.

And the king commanded Benayahu the son of Yehoyada, and he went out and struck him, and he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Shelomoh.
