And King David was old, advanced in days, and they covered him with garments, and he did not become warm for him.

And his servants said to him, 'Let them seek for my Adonai the king a maiden, a virgin, and let her stand before the king, and let her be a sustainer for him, and let her lie in your bosom, and it will be warm for my Adonai the king.'

And they sought a maiden, beautiful in all the territory of Yisra'el, and they found Avishag the Shunammite, and they brought her to the king.

And the maiden was beautiful exceedingly, and she was for the king a sustainer, and she served him, and the king did not know her.

And Adoniyah, son of Ḥaggith, was exalting himself, saying, 'I will reign,' and he made for himself a chariot and horsemen, and fifty men running before him.

And his father did not displease him in his days, saying, 'Why have you done this?' And also, he was very handsome in appearance, and her he bore after Avshalom.

And his words were with Yo'av, son of Tsruyah, and with Evyatar the priest, and they helped Adoniyah.

But Tsadoq the priest, and Benayahu, son of Yehoyada, and Natan the prophet, and Shim'i, and Re'i, and the mighty ones who belonged to David, they were not with Adoniyah.

And Adoniyah slaughtered sheep and fat cattle and fattened ones by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by En-Rogel, and he invited all the king's sons, and all the men of Yehudah, servants of the king.

But Natan the prophet, and Benayahu, and the mighty ones, and Shelomoh his brother, he did not invite.

And Natan said to Bat-Sheva, Shelomoh's mother, saying, 'Have you not heard that Adoniyah, son of Ḥaggith, has reigned, and our Adonai David does not know?'

And now, come, I will advise you advice, and save your life and the life of your son Shelomoh.

Go and come to King David, and say to him, 'Did you not, my Adonai the king, swear to your servant, saying, 'Indeed, Shelomoh your son will reign after me, and he will sit on my throne'?' And why has Adoniyah reigned?

Behold, while you are still speaking there with the king, I will come in after you and will complete your words.'

And Bat-Sheva went in to the king into the chamber, and the king was very old, and Avishag the Shunammite was ministering to the king.

And Bat-Sheva bowed and prostrated herself to the king, and the king said, 'What is it for you?'

And she said to him, 'My Adonai, you swore by יהוה your Elohim to your servant, saying, 'Indeed, Shelomoh your son will reign after me, and he will sit on my throne.''

And now, behold, Adoniyah has reigned, and now, my Adonai the king, you do not know.

And he slaughtered a bull and fattened ones and sheep in abundance, and he invited all the king's sons, and Evyatar the priest, and Yo'av the commander of the army, but Shelomoh your servant he did not invite.

And you, my Adonai the king, the eyes of all Yisra'el are upon you, to tell them who will sit on the throne of my Adonai the king after him.

And it will be when my Adonai the king lies down with his fathers, then I and my son Shelomoh will be sinners.'

And behold, while she was still speaking with the king, Natan the prophet came in.

And they told the king, saying, 'Behold, Natan the prophet,' and he came in before the king, and he prostrated himself to the king on his face to the ground.

And Natan said, 'My Adonai the king, you said, 'Adoniyah will reign after me, and he will sit on my throne.''

For he went down today, and he slaughtered a bull and fattened ones and sheep in abundance, and he invited all the king's sons, and the commanders of the army, and Evyatar the priest, and behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and they said, 'Long live King Adoniyah!'

But me, your servant, and Tsadoq the priest, and Benayahu, son of Yehoyada, and Shelomoh your servant, he did not invite.

If this matter is from my Adonai the king, and you have not made known to your servant who will sit on the throne of my Adonai the king after him?

And King David answered and said, 'Call Bat-Sheva to me,' and she came before the king, and she stood before the king.

And the king swore and said, 'As יהוה lives, who has redeemed my soul from all distress,'

'Indeed, as I swore to you by יהוה Elohim of Yisra'el, saying, 'Indeed, Shelomoh your son will reign after me, and he will sit on my throne in my place,' indeed, so I will do this day.'

And Bat-Sheva bowed her face to the ground and prostrated herself to the king, and she said, 'Long live my Adonai King David forever!'

And King David said, 'Call to me Tsadoq the priest, and Natan the prophet, and Benayahu, son of Yehoyada,' and they came before the king.

And the king said to them, 'Take with you the servants of your Adonai, and cause my son Shelomoh to ride on my mule, and bring him down to Gihon.'

And Tsadoq the priest and Natan the prophet shall anoint him there as king over Yisra'el, and you shall blow the shofar and say, 'Long live King Shelomoh!'

And you shall come up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne, and he shall reign in my place, and him I have commanded to be ruler over Yisra'el and over Yehudah.'

And Benayahu, son of Yehoyada, answered the king and said, 'Amen. So may יהוה, the Elohim of my Adonai the king, say.'

As יהוה has been with my Adonai the king, so may he be with Shelomoh, and may he make his throne greater than the throne of my Adonai King David.'

And Tsadoq the priest, and Natan the prophet, and Benayahu, son of Yehoyada, and the Kerethites and the Pelethites went down, and they caused Shelomoh to ride on the mule of King David, and they brought him to Gihon.

And Tsadoq the priest took the horn of oil from the tent, and he anointed Shelomoh, and they blew the shofar, and all the people said, 'Long live King Shelomoh!'

And all the people went up after him, and the people were playing on flutes, and rejoicing with great joy, and the earth was split with their noise.

And Adoniyah and all the invited guests heard, and they finished eating. And Yo'av heard the sound of the shofar, and he said, 'Why is the sound of the city in an uproar?'

He was still speaking, and behold, Yonathan, son of Evyatar the priest, came. And Adoniyah said, 'Come in, for you are a mighty man, and you bring good news.'

And Yonathan answered and said to Adoniyah, 'Indeed, our Adonai King David has made Shelomoh king.'

And the king sent with him Tsadoq the priest, and Natan the prophet, and Benayahu, son of Yehoyada, and the Kerethites and the Pelethites, and they caused him to ride on the king's mule.

And Tsadoq the priest and Natan the prophet anointed him king in Gihon, and they went up from there rejoicing, and the city was in an uproar; this is the sound which you heard.

And also Shelomoh sat on the throne of the kingdom.

And also the king's servants came to bless our Adonai King David, saying, 'May your Elohim make the name of Shelomoh greater than your name, and may he make his throne greater than your throne.' And the king bowed himself on the bed.

And also thus said the king, 'Blessed be יהוה, the Elohim of Yisra'el, who has given this day one sitting on my throne, and my eyes see.'

And all the invited guests of Adoniyah trembled, and they rose up, and each went his way.

And Adoniyah feared because of Shelomoh, and he rose up and went and grasped the horns of the altar.

And it was told to Shelomoh, saying, 'Behold, Adoniyah fears King Shelomoh, and behold, he has grasped the horns of the altar, saying, 'Let King Shelomoh swear to me today that he will not put his servant to death by the sword.''

And Shelomoh said, 'If he will be a man of worth, not a hair of his head shall fall to the ground, but if wickedness is found in him, he shall die.'

And King Shelomoh sent, and they brought him down from the altar, and he came and prostrated himself to King Shelomoh, and Shelomoh said to him, 'Go to your house.'
