And it came to pass when David was dwelling in his house, and David said to Natan the prophet, 'Look, I am dwelling in a house of cedars, and the ark of the covenant of יהוה is under curtains.'

And Natan said to David, 'All that is in your heart, do, because Elohim is with you.'

And it came to pass in that night, and the word of Elohim came to Natan, saying:

'Go and say to David my servant, Thus says יהוה, You shall not build for me a house to dwell in.'

'For I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought up Yisra'el until this day, and I have been from tent to tent and from a dwelling place.'

'In all places where I walked with all Yisra'el, did I speak a word to one of the judges of Yisra'el, whom I commanded to shepherd my people, saying, Why have you not built for me a house of cedars?'

'And now, thus you shall say to my servant David, Thus says יהוה of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from after the sheep, to be a ruler over my people Yisra'el.'

'And I was with you wherever you walked, and I cut off all your enemies from before you, and I made for you a name like the name of the great ones who are in the earth.'

'And I will appoint a place for my people Yisra'el, and I will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and they shall not be moved again, and the children of wickedness shall not afflict them anymore as at the first.'

'And from the days I commanded judges over my people Yisra'el, and I subdued all your enemies, and I declare to you that יהוה will build a house for you.'

'And it shall be when your days are fulfilled to walk with your fathers, that I will raise up your offspring after you, who will be from your sons, and I will establish his kingdom.'

'He shall build for me a house, and I will establish his throne forever.'

'I will be to him for a father, and he will be to me for a son, and my kindness I will not remove from him, as I removed it from him who was before you.'

'And I will establish him in my house and in my kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established forever.'

'According to all these words and according to all this vision, so Natan spoke to David.'

'And King David came and sat before יהוה, and he said, 'Who am I, Adonai Elohim, and who is my house, that you have brought me this far?'

'And this was small in your eyes, Elohim, and you have spoken concerning the house of your servant for a distant time, and you have regarded me as the highest type of man, Adonai Elohim.'

'What more can David add to you for the honor of your servant? And you know your servant.'

'Adonai, for the sake of your servant and according to your heart, you have done all this greatness to make known all the great things.'

'Adonai, there is none like you, and there is no Elohim besides you, in all that we have heard with our ears.'

'And who is like your people Yisra'el, one nation in the earth, whom Elohim went to redeem for himself as a people, to make for you a name of great and awesome things, to drive out from before your people whom you redeemed from Mitsrayim, nations?'

'And you have given your people Yisra'el to yourself as a people forever, and you, יהוה, have been to them for Elohim.'

'And now, יהוה, the word that you spoke concerning your servant and concerning his house, let it be confirmed forever, and do as you have spoken.'

'And let it be confirmed, and let your name be magnified forever, saying, יהוה of hosts is the Elohim of Yisra'el, and the house of David your servant is established before you.'

'For you, my Elohim, have revealed to the ear of your servant to build for him a house, therefore your servant has found to pray before you.'

'And now, יהוה, you are the Elohim, and you have spoken concerning your servant this good thing.'

'And now, you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, to be forever before you, because you, יהוה, have blessed, and are blessed forever.'
