When Efrayim spoke, there was trembling; he was exalted in Yisra'el, but he sinned by the Ba'al and died.

And now they add to sin, and they make for themselves a cast image from their silver, according to their understanding, idols; the work of craftsmen, all of it. They say about them, 'The ones sacrificing humans kiss calves.'

Therefore, they will be like a morning cloud, and like dew that goes away early, like chaff that is swept from the threshing floor, and like smoke from a window.

But I am יהוה your Elohim from the land of Mitsrayim, and you will know no elohim besides Me, and there is no savior other than Me.

I knew you in the wilderness, in the land of drought.

According to their pasture, they were satisfied; they were satisfied, and their heart became arrogant; therefore, they forgot me.

So I was to them like a lion; like a leopard on the path of Ashur, I will meet them.

I will meet them like a bereaved bear, and I will tear open the enclosure of their heart, and I will devour them there like a lion; the wild animal of the field will tear them apart.

Your destruction, O Yisra'el, is from me, your help.

Where is your king now, that he may save you in all your cities? And your rulers, about whom you said, 'Give me a king and princes.'

I gave you a king in my anger, and I took him away in my wrath.

The iniquity of Efrayim is bound up; their sin is hidden.

The pains of childbirth will come to him; he is a son who is not wise, for at the time he does not stand in the breaking forth of children.

From the hand of Sheol I will redeem them; from death I will ransom them. O death, where are your plagues? O Sheol, where is your destruction? Compassion is hidden from my eyes.

Though he is fruitful among brothers, the east wind will come, the wind of יהוה, rising from the wilderness, and his spring will dry up, and his fountain will be ruined. He will plunder the treasury of every precious vessel.
