In the seventh, on the twenty-first of the month, the word of יהוה came by Haggai the prophet, saying:

Speak now to Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, governor of Yehudah, and to Yehoshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying:

Who among you is left who saw this house in its former glory? And how do you see it now? Is it not like nothing in your eyes?

But now, be strong, Zerubbabel, declares יהוה. And be strong, Yehoshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest. And be strong, all you people of the land, declares יהוה, and work, for I am with you, declares יהוה of hosts.

This is the word which I covenanted with you when you came out of Mitsrayim, and my Spirit is standing among you. Do not fear.

For thus says יהוה of hosts: Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land.

And I will shake all the nations, and the desirable things of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory, says יהוה of hosts.

The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, declares יהוה of hosts.

Greater will be the glory of this latter house than the former, says יהוה of hosts. And in this place I will give peace, declares יהוה of hosts.

On the twenty-fourth of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of יהוה came to Haggai the prophet, saying:

Thus says יהוה of hosts: Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying:

If one carries holy flesh in the fringe of his garment, and with its fringe touches bread, or stew, or wine, or oil, or any food, will it become holy? And the priests answered and said, 'No.'

And Haggai said, If one touches with the dead body of any of these, will it become unclean? And the priests answered and said, 'It will become unclean.'

Then Haggai answered and said, So is this people and so is this nation before me, declares יהוה, and so is every work of their hands. And what they offer there is unclean.

And now, please set your heart from this day and onward, before placing stone upon stone in the temple of יהוה.

From when you came expecting twenty, and there were ten. When you came to the winepress to draw fifty measures, and there were twenty.

I struck you with blight and with mildew and with hail, all the works of your hands, and you did not turn to me, declares יהוה.

Please set your heart from this day and onward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from the day that the foundation of the temple of יהוה was laid, set your heart.

Is the seed still in the storehouse? And even the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not borne fruit. From this day I will bless.

And the word of יהוה came a second time to Haggai on the twenty-fourth of the month, saying:

Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Yehudah, saying, I am about to shake the heavens and the earth.

And I will overturn the thrones of kingdoms and destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations. And I will overturn the chariot and its riders, and horses and their riders will fall, each by the sword of his brother.

On that day, declares יהוה of hosts, I will take you, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, my servant, declares יהוה, and I will make you like a signet ring, for I have chosen you, declares יהוה of hosts.
