And Raḥel saw that she did not bear children to Ya'aqov, and Raḥel envied her sister, and she said to Ya'aqov, 'Give me sons, and if not, I am dead.'

And Ya'aqov's anger burned against Raḥel, and he said, 'Am I in Elohim's place, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?'

And she said, 'Behold, my servant Bilhah; go in to her, and she will bear on my knees, and I will also be built up from her.'

And she gave him Bilhah her servant as a wife, and Ya'aqov went in to her.

And Bilhah conceived and bore a son to Ya'aqov.

And Raḥel said, 'Elohim has judged me, and also heard my voice, and given me a son.' Therefore she called his name Dan.

And Bilhah, Raḥel's servant, conceived again and bore a second son to Ya'aqov.

And Raḥel said, 'With great wrestlings of Elohim I have wrestled with my sister, and also I have prevailed.' And she called his name Naftali.

And Leah saw that she had ceased bearing, and she took Zilpah her servant and gave her to Ya'aqov as a wife.

And Zilpah, Leah's servant, bore a son to Ya'aqov.

And Leah said, 'A troop has come,' and she called his name Gad.

And Zilpah, Leah's servant, bore a second son to Ya'aqov.

And Leah said, 'For my happiness, for daughters have made me happy,' and she called his name Asher.

And Re'uven went in the days of wheat harvest and found mandrakes in the field, and he brought them to Leah his mother, and Raḥel said to Leah, 'Give me, please, from your son's mandrakes.'

And she said to her, 'Is it a small thing that you have taken my husband? And will you also take my son's mandrakes?' And Raḥel said, 'Therefore he will lie with you tonight because of your son's mandrakes.'

And Ya'aqov came from the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and she said, 'To me you must come, for I have hired you with my son's mandrakes.' And he lay with her that night.

And Elohim heard Leah, and she conceived and bore a fifth son to Ya'aqov.

And Leah said, 'Elohim has given me my wages, because I gave my servant to my husband,' and she called his name Yissaskar.

And Leah conceived again and bore a sixth son to Ya'aqov.

And Leah said, 'Elohim has endowed me with a good endowment; now my husband will dwell with me, because I have borne him six sons,' and she called his name Zevulun.

And afterward she bore a daughter and called her name Dinah.

And Elohim remembered Raḥel, and Elohim heard her, and opened her womb.

And she conceived and bore a son, and said, 'Elohim has taken away my reproach.'

And she called his name Yosef, saying, 'May יהוה add to me another son.'

And it happened when Raḥel had borne Yosef, that Ya'aqov said to Lavan, 'Send me away, and I will go to my place and to my land.'

Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served you, and let me go, for you know my service which I have served you.

And Lavan said to him, 'If I have found favor in your eyes, I have divined, and יהוה has blessed me because of you.'

And he said, 'Name your wages upon me, and I will give.'

And he said to him, 'You know what I have done for you, and what your livestock has been with me.'

For what you had before me was little, and it has increased to a multitude, and יהוה has blessed you at my feet. And now, when shall I also provide for my own household?'

And he said, 'What shall I give you?' And Ya'aqov said, 'You shall give me nothing. If you will do this thing for me, I will return and pasture your flock and keep it.'

I will pass through all your flock today, remove from there every speckled and spotted sheep, and every dark sheep among the lambs, and spotted and speckled among the goats, and it shall be my wages.

And my honesty will answer for me on the morrow, when you come concerning my wages before you. Everything that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and dark among the lambs, it is stolen with me.

And Lavan said, 'Behold, let it be according to your word.'

And he removed on that day the streaked and spotted male goats, and every goat that was speckled and spotted, everything that had white on it, and every dark one among the sheep, and he gave them into the care of his sons.

And he set a journey of three days between himself and Ya'aqov, and Ya'aqov pastured the rest of Lavan's flock.

And Ya'aqov took for himself branches of a poplar, an almond, and a plane tree, and he peeled white streaks in them, exposing the white that was on the branches.

And he set the branches which he had peeled in the watering troughs in the places where the flock came to drink, facing the flock, and they conceived when they came to drink.

And the flock conceived by the branches, and the flock bore streaked, speckled, and spotted.

And Ya'aqov separated the lambs, and set the faces of the flock toward the streaked and every dark one in Lavan's flock, and he made his own droves apart and did not put them with Lavan's flock.

And it happened whenever the flock conceived, Ya'aqov put the branches before the eyes of the flock in the watering troughs, so they would conceive by the branches.

And when the flock was weak, he did not put them in, and the weak ones belonged to Lavan, and the strong ones belonged to Ya'aqov.

And the man became exceedingly prosperous, and he had large flocks, and female servants, and male servants, and camels, and donkeys.
