Ya'aqov lifted his feet and went to the land of the sons of the east

He saw a well in the field, and there were three flocks of sheep lying beside it, because they watered the flocks from that well, and a large stone covered the mouth of the well

All the flocks gathered there, and they rolled the stone from the mouth of the well and watered the sheep, then they returned the stone to its place over the mouth of the well

Ya'aqov said to them, "My brothers, where are you from?" They said, "We are from Ḥaran"

He said to them, "Do you know Lavan son of Naḥor?" They said, "We know him"

He said to them, "Is he well?" They said, "He is well, and here comes Raḥel his daughter with the sheep"

He said, "Look, the day is still long. It is not time to gather the livestock. Water the sheep and go pasture them"

They said, "We cannot until all the flocks are gathered and they roll the stone from the mouth of the well, then we water the sheep"

While he was still speaking with them, Raḥel came with her father's sheep, for she was a shepherdess

When Ya'aqov saw Raḥel daughter of Lavan his mother's brother, and the sheep of Lavan his mother's brother, Ya'aqov went up and rolled the stone from the mouth of the well and watered the sheep of Lavan his mother's brother

Ya'aqov kissed Raḥel, lifted his voice, and wept

Ya'aqov told Raḥel that he was her father's brother and that he was son of Rivqah. She ran and told her father

When Lavan heard the news about Ya'aqov son of his sister, he ran to meet him, embraced him and kissed him, and brought him to his house. Ya'aqov told Lavan all these things

Lavan said to him, "You are truly my bone and my flesh." He stayed with him a full month

Lavan said to Ya'aqov, "Just because you are my brother, should you serve me for nothing? Tell me what your wages should be"

Lavan had two daughters. The name of the older was Le'ah, and the name of the younger was Raḥel

Le'ah's eyes were tender, but Raḥel was beautiful in form and beautiful in appearance

Ya'aqov loved Raḥel and said, "I will serve you seven years for Raḥel your younger daughter"

Lavan said, "It is better that I give her to you than to another man. Stay with me"

Ya'aqov served seven years for Raḥel, and they seemed to him like a few days because of his love for her

Ya'aqov said to Lavan, "Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, and I will go in to her"

Lavan gathered all the men of the place and made a feast

In the evening he took Le'ah his daughter and brought her to Ya'aqov, and he went in to her

Lavan gave his female servant Zilpah to Le'ah his daughter as a maidservant

In the morning there she was: Le'ah. He said to Lavan, "What is this you have done to me? Did I not serve with you for Raḥel? Why have you deceived me?"

Lavan said, "It is not done this way in our place, to give the younger before the firstborn"

Complete this week, and we will also give you this one, for the service you will serve with me for yet another seven years

Ya'aqov did so and completed the week. Then Lavan gave him Raḥel his daughter as a wife

Lavan gave his female servant Bilhah to Raḥel his daughter as a maidservant

He also went in to Raḥel, and he loved Raḥel more than Le'ah. He served with Lavan yet another seven years

יהוה saw that Le'ah was hated, so he opened her womb, but Raḥel was barren

Le'ah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Re'uven, for she said, "Because יהוה has seen my affliction. Now my husband will love me"

She conceived again and bore a son, and said, "Because יהוה has heard that I am hated, he has given me this one too." So she called his name Shimʿon

She conceived again and bore a son, and said, "Now this time my husband will join himself to me, because I have borne him three sons." Therefore she called his name Levi

She conceived again and bore a son, and said, "This time I will praise יהוה." Therefore she called his name Yehudah. Then she stopped bearing
