And a famine was in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Avraham, and Yitsḥaq went to Avimelekh, king of the Pelishtim, to Gerar.

And יהוה appeared to him and said, 'Do not go down to Mitsrayim; dwell in the land that I will tell you.'

Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you and bless you, for to you and to your seed I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Avraham your father.

And I will multiply your seed like the stars of the heavens, and I will give to your seed all these lands, and in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed.

Because Avraham obeyed my voice and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

And Yitsḥaq settled in Gerar.

And the men of the place asked about his wife, and he said, 'She is my sister,' for he was afraid, saying, 'My wife, lest the men of the place kill me because of Rivqah, for she is beautiful to look upon.'

And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Avimelekh, king of the Pelishtim, looked out through a window and saw, and behold, Yitsḥaq was fondling Rivqah his wife.

And Avimelekh called for Yitsḥaq and said, 'Behold, she is your wife! How then did you say, 'She is my sister'?' And Yitsḥaq said to him, 'Because I said, 'Lest I die because of her.''

And Avimelekh said, 'What is this you have done to us? One of the people might have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt upon us.'

And Avimelekh charged all the people, saying, 'Anyone who touches this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.'

And Yitsḥaq sowed in that land and found in that year a hundredfold, and יהוה blessed him.

And the man became great, and went on going and growing greater until he became very great.

And he had flocks of sheep and herds of cattle and many servants, and the Pelishtim envied him.

And all the wells that his father's servants had dug in the days of Avraham his father, the Pelishtim had stopped them up and filled them with dirt.

And Avimelekh said to Yitsḥaq, 'Go from us, for you have become much mightier than we.'

And Yitsḥaq departed from there and encamped in the Valley of Gerar and settled there.

And Yitsḥaq dug again the wells of water that had been dug in the days of Avraham his father, which the Pelishtim had stopped up after the death of Avraham, and he gave them names according to the names his father had given them.

And the servants of Yitsḥaq dug in the valley and found there a well of living water.

And the shepherds of Gerar quarreled with the shepherds of Yitsḥaq, saying, 'The water is ours!' And he called the name of the well Esek, because they contended with him.

And they dug another well, and they quarreled over that one also, and he called its name Sitnah.

And he moved from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it, and he called its name Reḥovot, and said, 'For now יהוה has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.'

And he went up from there to Beer-Sheva.

And יהוה appeared to him the same night and said, 'I am the Elohim of Avraham your father; do not fear, for I am with you and will bless you and multiply your seed for the sake of Avraham my servant.'

And he built an altar there and called on the name of יהוה and pitched his tent there, and there the servants of Yitsḥaq dug a well.

And Avimelekh went to him from Gerar, with his companion and the commander of his army.

And Yitsḥaq said to them, 'Why have you come to me, seeing that you hate me and have sent me away from you?'

And they said, 'We have seen clearly that יהוה is with you, and we said, 'Let there now be an oath between us, between you and us, and let us make a covenant with you.''

If you do us harm, just as we have not touched you and have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace, you are now blessed by יהוה.'

And he made them a feast, and they ate and drank.

And they rose early in the morning and swore to one another, and Yitsḥaq sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.

And it came to pass that day that the servants of Yitsḥaq came and told him about the well that they had dug, and they said to him, 'We have found water.'

And he called it Sheva, therefore the name of the city is Beer-Sheva to this day.

And 'Esav was forty years old when he took as wives Yehudit the daughter of Be'eri the Hittite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite.

And they were a bitterness of spirit to Yitsḥaq and to Rivqah.
