And it came to pass in the days of Aḥashverosh, this is Aḥashverosh who reigns from India even to Kush, one hundred and twenty-seven provinces.

In those days, when King Aḥashverosh sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was in Shushan the capital.

In the third year of his reign, he made a feast for all his officials and his servants, the army of Paras and Madai, the dignitaries and the governors of the provinces before him.

When he displayed the riches of the glory of his kingdom and the splendor of his great majesty for many days, one hundred and eighty days.

And when these days were completed, the king made a feast for all the people present in Shushan the capital, from great to small, a seven-day feast in the courtyard of the garden of the king's palace.

White and blue linen, held by cords of fine linen and purple, on silver bars and columns of marble; couches of gold and silver on a pavement of alabaster and white marble, and black marble, and inlaid work.

And they served drinks in golden vessels, and vessels of different kinds, and royal wine in abundance, according to the king's generosity.

And the drinking was according to the law; there was no compulsion, for so the king had ordained for all the chief men of his household, to do according to each man's will.

Queen Vashti also made a feast for the women in the royal palace of King Aḥashverosh.

On the seventh day, when the king's heart was merry with wine, he said to Mehuman, Bizta, Harbona, Bigta, Avagta, Zetar, and Karkas, the seven eunuchs who served in the presence of King Aḥashverosh.

To bring Queen Vashti before the king with the royal crown, to show the peoples and the princes her beauty, for she was beautiful to behold.

But Queen Vashti refused to come at the king's command which was brought by the eunuchs, and the king became very angry, and his wrath burned within him.

Then the king spoke to the wise men who understood the times, for it was the king's custom to consult all who knew law and custom.

And those closest to him were Karshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memuchan, the seven princes of Paras and Madai, who had access to the king's presence and sat first in the kingdom.

According to the law, what should be done to Queen Vashti for not doing the command of King Aḥashverosh which was brought by the eunuchs?

And Memuchan said before the king and the princes, Queen Vashti has not wronged the king only, but all the princes and all the peoples who are in all the provinces of King Aḥashverosh.

For the queen's action will become known to all women, causing them to look down on their husbands in their eyes, when it is said, King Aḥashverosh commanded to bring Queen Vashti before him, and she did not come.

And today, the noblewomen of Paras and Madai who have heard of the queen's action will say the same to all the king's princes, and there will be much contempt and anger.

If it pleases the king, let a royal decree go forth from him, and let it be written in the laws of Paras and Madai, and let it not be repealed, that Vashti shall not come before King Aḥashverosh, and let the king give her royal position to another who is better than she.

And when the king's decree which he shall make is proclaimed throughout his kingdom, vast as it is, all women will give honor to their husbands, from great to small.

And the proposal pleased the king and the princes, and the king did as Memuchan proposed.

And he sent letters to all the provinces of the king, to each province according to its writing, and to each people according to its language, that every man should be master in his own house and speak according to the language of his people.
