There is a bad thing that I saw under the sun, and it is great upon mankind.

A man to whom Elohim gives riches, possessions, and honor, and he is not lacking for his soul from anything he desires, and Elohim does not permit him to eat from it, but a stranger eats it. This is futility and a bad sickness.

If a man fathers a hundred, and lives many years, and the days of his years are many, and his soul does not satisfy itself with good, and also there is no burial for him, I said, 'Better than him is the stillborn one.'

For in futility he comes, and in darkness he goes, and in darkness his name will be covered.

He also did not see the sun, nor did he know rest. This one is better than that one.

And if he lived a thousand years twice, and did not see good, behold, to one place all go.

All the labor of mankind is for his mouth, and also the soul will not be filled.

For what more does a wise man have than a fool? What more does a poor man have who knows to walk before the living?

Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the soul. This also is futility and a chasing after wind.

Whatever has been, its name has already been called, and it is known that he is man, and he cannot contend with one stronger than him.

For there are many things that multiply futility. What more is there for man?

For who knows what is good for man in life, the number of the days of his futile life, and he makes them like a shadow? Who will tell man what will be after him under the sun?
