Hear, Yisra'el! You are crossing the Yardên today to take possession of nations greater and stronger than you, cities great and fortified up to the sky.

A people great and tall, sons of Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you have heard: Who can stand before the sons of Anakim?

Know today that יהוה your Elohim, he is the one crossing before you, a consuming fire; he will destroy them, and he will subdue them before you. You will dispossess them and destroy them quickly, just as יהוה spoke to you.

Do not say in your heart, after יהוה your Elohim drives them out from before you, saying, 'Because of my righteousness יהוה has brought me in to possess this land,' and because of the wickedness of these nations, יהוה is driving them out from before you.

Not because of your righteousness and the uprightness of your heart are you coming in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations, יהוה your Elohim is driving them out from before you, and to fulfill the word that יהוה swore to your fathers, to Avraham, to Yitsḥaq, and to Ya'aqov.

And you will know that it is not because of your righteousness that יהוה your Elohim is giving you this good land to possess it, for you are a stiff-necked people.

Remember, do not forget how you provoked יהוה your Elohim to anger in the wilderness, from the day you came out of the land of Mitsrayim until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against יהוה.

And at Ḥorev you provoked יהוה, and יהוה was angry with you to destroy you.

I went up the mountain to take the stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant that יהוה made with you, and I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights; I did not eat bread and I did not drink water.

And יהוה gave me the two stone tablets, written with the finger of Elohim, and on them were all the words that יהוה spoke with you on the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly.

And it happened at the end of forty days and forty nights, יהוה gave me the two stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant.

And יהוה said to me, 'Get up, go down quickly from here, for your people whom you brought out of Mitsrayim have corrupted themselves; they have quickly turned aside from the way that I commanded them; they have made for themselves a molten image.'

And יהוה said to me, saying, 'I have seen this people, and behold, they are a stiff-necked people.'

Let me alone, and I will destroy them and blot out their name from under the heavens, and I will make you into a nation stronger and greater than they.'

And I turned and went down from the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire, and the two tablets of the covenant were on my two hands.

And I looked, and behold, you had sinned against יהוה your Elohim; you had made for yourselves a molten calf; you had quickly turned aside from the way that יהוה commanded you.

And I grasped the two tablets and threw them from my two hands and broke them before your eyes.

And I fell before יהוה, just as before, forty days and forty nights; I did not eat bread and I did not drink water, because of all your sin that you sinned by doing evil in the eyes of יהוה, to provoke him.

For I was afraid of the anger and the wrath with which יהוה was angry with you to destroy you, and יהוה listened to me also at that time.

And יהוה was very angry with Aharon to destroy him, and I also prayed for Aharon at that time.

And your sin, which you made, the calf, I took and burned it with fire, and I beat it, grinding it thoroughly until it was fine as dust, and I threw its dust into the stream flowing down from the mountain.

And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at the graves of craving, you were provoking יהוה to anger.

And when יהוה sent you from Kadesh Barnea, saying, 'Go up and possess the land that I have given you,' you rebelled against the command of יהוה your Elohim, and you did not believe him, and you did not listen to his voice.

You have been rebellious against יהוה from the day I knew you.

And I fell before יהוה, those forty days and forty nights that I fell, because יהוה said he would destroy you.

And I prayed to יהוה and said, 'Adonai יהוה, do not destroy your people and your inheritance, whom you redeemed by your greatness, whom you brought out of Mitsrayim with a strong hand.'

Remember your servants, Avraham, Yitsḥaq, and Ya'aqov; do not look at the stubbornness of this people, and at their wickedness, and at their sin.

Lest they say, 'From the land where you brought us out, because יהוה was not able to bring them to the land that he spoke of to them, and because he hated them, he brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.'

And they are your people and your inheritance, whom you brought out by your great strength and by your outstretched arm.
