When you go out to war against your enemy and you see horses and chariots, a people greater than you, you shall not fear them, because יהוה your Elohim is with you, who brought you up from the land of Mitsrayim.

And it will be when you draw near to the war, the kohen shall approach and speak to the people.

And he shall say to them, 'Hear, Yisra'el, you are drawing near today to war against your enemies; let your heart not be faint, you shall not fear, nor be dismayed, nor tremble before them.'

Because יהוה your Elohim, he is the one going with you to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.'

And the officers shall speak to the people, saying, 'Who is the man who has built a new house and has not dedicated it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the war and another man dedicate it.'

And who is the man who has planted a vineyard and has not consecrated it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the war and another man consecrate it.'

And who is the man who has betrothed a woman and has not taken her? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the war and another man take her.'

And the officers shall continue to speak to the people and say, 'Who is the man who is fearful and faint of heart? Let him go and return to his house, and he shall not cause the heart of his brothers to melt like his heart.'

And it will be when the officers finish speaking to the people, and the commanders of armies shall be appointed at the head of the people.

When you draw near to a city to fight against it, you shall call out to it for peace.

And it will be, if it answers you with peace and opens to you, then all the people found in it shall be for you for forced labor and serve you.

But if it does not make peace with you and wages war against you, then you shall besiege it.

And יהוה your Elohim shall give it into your hand, and you shall strike all its males with the edge of the sword.

Only the women, and the little ones, and the livestock, and all that is in the city, all its spoil you shall plunder for yourself, and you shall eat the spoil of your enemies, which יהוה your Elohim has given you.

Thus you shall do to all the cities very far from you, which are not of these cities of the nations.

Only from the cities of these peoples, which יהוה your Elohim is giving you as an inheritance, you shall not let any soul live.

Because you shall utterly destroy them, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, as יהוה your Elohim has commanded you.

So that they may not teach you to do according to all their abominations which they have done for their elohim, and you sin against יהוה your Elohim.

When you besiege a city for many days to fight against it to capture it, you shall not destroy its trees by swinging an axe against them, because from them you shall eat, and them you shall not cut down, for is the tree of the field a man to come from before you in the siege?

Only trees which you know are not food trees, them you shall destroy and cut down, and you shall build siege works against the city that is waging war with you until it falls.
