And we turned and went into the wilderness by the way of the Sea of Reeds, as יהוה spoke to me. And we circled Mount Seir many days.

And יהוה spoke to me, saying:

It is enough for you to circle this mountain. Turn yourselves northward.

And command the people, saying, You are passing through the territory of your brothers, the sons of Esav, who dwell in Seir. And they will fear you, and you will be very careful.

Do not provoke them, for I will not give you from their land, not even the space of a foot. For to Esav I have given Mount Seir as an inheritance.

You will buy food from them for silver, and you will eat. And also water you will draw from them for silver, and you will drink.

For יהוה your Elohim has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He knows your walking through this great wilderness. These forty years יהוה your Elohim has been with you; you have lacked nothing.

And we passed from our brothers, the sons of Esav, who dwell in Seir, from the way of the Arabah, from Elat and from Etzyon Gever. And we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Mo'av.

And יהוה said to me, Do not distress Mo'av, and do not provoke them to war, for I will not give you from their land as an inheritance. For to the sons of Lot I have given Ar as an inheritance.

The Emim lived there formerly, a people great and numerous and tall, like the Anakim.

The Rephaim are also counted as Anakim. And the Mo'avim call them Emim.

And in Seir the Horim lived formerly, and the sons of Esav inherited them and destroyed them from before them and lived in their place, just as Yisra'el did to the land of their inheritance, which יהוה gave them.

Now, arise and cross the Wadi Zered. And we crossed the Wadi Zered.

And the days we walked from Kadesh Barnea until we crossed the Wadi Zered were thirty-eight years, until all the generation of men of war perished from the midst of the camp, as יהוה swore to them.

And also the hand of יהוה was against them to destroy them from the midst of the camp until they perished.

And it came to pass, when all the men of war had perished and died from the midst of the people,

And יהוה spoke to me, saying:

You are passing today through the territory of Mo'av, through Ar.

And you will come near opposite the sons of Ammon. Do not distress them, and do not provoke them to war, for I will not give you from the land of the sons of Ammon as an inheritance, for to the sons of Lot I have given it as an inheritance.

It is also counted as the land of the Rephaim. The Rephaim lived there formerly, and the Ammonim call them Zamzummim.

A people great and numerous and tall, like the Anakim. And יהוה destroyed them before them, and they inherited them and lived in their place.

Just as He did for the sons of Esav, who dwell in Seir, who destroyed the Horim from before them, and they inherited them and lived in their place until this day.

And the Avim who lived in villages as far as Gaza, the Kaphtorim who came out from Kaphtor destroyed them and lived in their place.

Arise, set out, and cross the Wadi Arnon. See, I have given into your hand Sichon, king of Cheshbon, the Emorite, and his land. Begin to possess and provoke him to war.

Today I will begin to put your dread and your fear upon the faces of the peoples under all the heavens, who will hear the report of you and will tremble and be in anguish because of you.

And I sent messengers from the wilderness of Kedemot to Sichon, king of Cheshbon, with words of peace, saying:

'I will pass through your land. On the road, on the road I will go; I will not turn right or left.

You will sell me food for silver, and I will eat. And water you will give me for silver, and I will drink. Only I will pass through on foot.

Just as the sons of Esav, who dwell in Seir, and the Mo'avim, who dwell in Ar, did for me, until I pass over the Jordan to the land which יהוה our Elohim is giving us.'

But Sichon, king of Cheshbon, was not willing to let us pass through him, for יהוה your Elohim hardened his spirit and made his heart stubborn, so that He might give him into your hand, as it is this day.

And יהוה said to me, See, I have begun to give Sichon and his land before you. Begin to possess his land.'

And Sichon came out to meet us, he and all his people, for war, to Yahatz.

And יהוה our Elohim gave him before us, and we struck him and his sons and all his people.

And we captured all his cities at that time, and we utterly destroyed every city, the men, and the women, and the little ones; we left no survivor.

Only the livestock we plundered for ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we captured.

From Aro'er, which is on the bank of the Wadi Arnon, and the city which is in the valley, and as far as Gil'ad, there was no city too strong for us. יהוה our Elohim gave all to us.

Only to the land of the sons of Ammon you did not come near, to the bank of the Wadi Yabbok, and the cities of the hill country, and all that יהוה our Elohim commanded.
