In the first year of Dariush, son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, who was made king over the kingdom of the Chaldeans.

In the first year of his reign, I, Dani'el, understood from the scrolls the number of years of which the word of יהוה came to Yirmeyahu the prophet, for the completion of the desolations of Yerushalayim: seventy years.

And I set my face toward Adonai Elohim, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.

And I prayed to יהוה my Elohim, and confessed, and said, 'Please, Adonai, the great and awesome El, who keeps covenant and steadfast love for those who love Him and keep His commandments,

we have sinned and committed iniquity, and acted wickedly, and rebelled, and turned aside from Your commandments and Your ordinances.

And we have not listened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, our rulers, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

To You, Adonai, belongs righteousness, but to us shame of face, as it is this day, to the men of Yehudah, and to the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, and to all Yisra'el, the near and the far, in all the lands where You have driven them, because of their treachery which they committed against You.

To us, Adonai, belongs shame of face, to our kings, our rulers, and our fathers, because we have sinned against You.

To Adonai our Elohim belong mercy and forgiveness, though we have rebelled against Him.

And we have not obeyed the voice of יהוה our Elohim, to walk in His laws, which He set before us by the hand of His servants the prophets.

And all Yisra'el have transgressed Your law and turned aside, refusing to obey Your voice. So the curse and the oath, which are written in the law of Mosheh, servant of Elohim, have been poured out on us, because we have sinned against Him.

And He has confirmed His words which He spoke against us and against our judges who judged us, to bring upon us a great disaster, such as has not been done under all the heavens as it has been done in Yerushalayim.

As it is written in the law of Mosheh, all this disaster has come upon us; yet we have not appeased the face of יהוה our Elohim by turning from our iniquities and by understanding Your truth.

So יהוה has watched over the disaster and brought it upon us, for יהוה our Elohim is righteous in all His works which He has done, and we have not obeyed His voice.

And now, Adonai our Elohim, who brought Your people out of the land of Mitsrayim with a strong hand, and made for Yourself a name, as it is this day—we have sinned, we have acted wickedly.

Adonai, according to all Your righteousness, please let Your anger and Your wrath be turned away from Your city Yerushalayim, Your holy mountain; for because of our sins and the iniquities of our fathers, Yerushalayim and Your people are a reproach to all who are around us.

Now therefore, hear, O our Elohim, the prayer of Your servant and his supplications, and cause Your face to shine upon Your desolate sanctuary, for the sake of Adonai.

Incline, O my Elohim, Your ear and hear; open Your eyes and see our desolations and the city which is called by Your name; for we are not presenting our supplications before You because of our righteousness, but because of Your great mercies.

O Adonai, hear! O Adonai, forgive! O Adonai, listen and act! Do not delay, for Your own sake, my Elohim, because Your name is called upon Your city and upon Your people.

And while I was still speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Yisra'el, and presenting my plea before יהוה my Elohim concerning the holy mountain of my Elohim,

yes, while I was still speaking in prayer, the man Gavri'el, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, came flying swiftly, touching me at the time of the evening offering.

And he instructed me and spoke with me, and said, 'O Dani'el, I have now come forth to give you understanding.

At the beginning of your supplications a command went out, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; so understand the command and consider the vision.

Seventy weeks are decreed upon your people and upon your holy city to put an end to transgression, to seal up sin, to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophet, and to anoint the Most Holy.

Know therefore and understand that from the issuing of a word to restore and rebuild Yerushalayim until Messiah the Prince, there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it shall be rebuilt with a plaza and a moat, even in times of distress.

And after the sixty-two weeks, Messiah shall be cut off and shall have nothing; and the city and the sanctuary shall be destroyed by the people of the prince who is to come. And its end shall be with a flood, and to the end of the war, desolations are decreed.

And he shall make a strong covenant with many for one week; and in the middle of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease. And on the wing of abominations shall come one who makes desolate, even until the complete end, and what is decreed shall be poured out on the desolate one.
