In the third year of the reign of Belshatsar the king, a vision appeared to me, Dani'el, after the one that appeared to me at the beginning.

And I saw in the vision, and it happened when I saw, and I was in Shushan the citadel, which is in the province of 'Elam, and I saw in the vision, and I was by the river 'Ulay.

And I lifted my eyes and I saw, and behold, one ram standing before the river, and it had two horns, and the horns were high, and one was higher than the second, and the higher one came up last.

I saw the ram goring to the west, and to the north, and to the south, and no living creatures could stand before it, and there was no deliverer from its hand, and it did according to its will, and it became great.

And I was understanding, and behold, a male goat of the goats was coming from the west over the face of all the land, and it was not touching the land, and the goat had a conspicuous horn between its eyes.

And it came to the ram with the two horns, which I saw standing before the river, and it ran toward it in the fury of its strength.

And I saw it approaching the ram, and it raged against it, and it broke its two horns, and there was no strength in the ram to stand before it, and it threw it to the ground and trampled it, and there was no deliverer for the ram from its hand.

And the male goat became very great, and when it was strong, the great horn was broken, and four horns grew up in its place toward the four winds of the sky.

And from one of them came out a small horn, and it grew exceedingly toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the beautiful land.

And it grew up to the host of the sky, and it cast down some of the host and some of the stars to the ground, and it trampled them.

And it grew up even to the prince of the host, and from him the daily offering was removed, and the place of its sanctuary was cast down.

And a host was given against the daily offering because of transgression, and it cast truth to the ground, and it acted and succeeded.

And I heard one holy one speaking, and one holy one said to the one speaking to the other, 'How long will the vision continue, the daily offering, and the transgression that makes desolate, to give both the holy place and the host to be trampled?'

And he said to me, 'For two thousand and three hundred evenings and mornings; then the holy place will be restored.'

And it happened when I, Dani'el, saw the vision, and I sought understanding, and behold, one standing before me like the appearance of a man.

And I heard the voice of Adam between 'Ulay, and it called and said, 'Gavri'el, make this one understand the vision.'

And he came near where I was standing, and when he came, I was terrified, and I fell on my face, and he said to me, 'Understand, son of Adam, for the vision is for the time of the end.'

And while he was speaking with me, I fell into a deep sleep on my face toward the ground, and he touched me and made me stand on my feet.

And he said, 'Behold, I am making known to you what will happen in the latter end of the indignation, because it is for the appointed time of the end.'

The ram that you saw with the two horns represents the kings of Media and Persia.

And the shaggy male goat is the king of Yavan, and the great horn that was between its eyes is the first king.

And as for the one that was broken, and four stood up in its place, four kingdoms will arise from that nation, but not with its power.

And at the latter end of their kingdom, when the transgressors have reached their limit, a king will arise, harsh of face, and understanding riddles.

And his power will be strong, but not by his own power, and he will destroy wonderfully, and he will succeed and act, and he will destroy the mighty ones and the people of the holy ones.

And through his insight, he will cause deceit to succeed by his hand, and in his heart he will become great, and by peace he will destroy many, and he will stand against the prince of princes, but he will be broken without a hand.

And the vision of the evenings and mornings that was told is true, but you, seal up the vision, for it is for many days.

And I, Dani'el, was weak and sick for days, and I arose and did the king's work, and I was astonished by the vision, and there was no one who understood.
