Belshatstsar the king made a great feast for his nobles, a thousand, and before the thousand he drank wine.

Belshatstsar, when he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the gold and silver vessels which Nebukhadnetstsar his father had brought out from the temple in Yerushalayim, and the king and his nobles, his wives, and his concubines drank from them.

Then they brought the gold vessels which had been brought out from the temple of the house of Elohim in Yerushalayim, and the king and his nobles, his wives, and his concubines drank from them.

They drank wine and praised the elohim of gold, and of silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone.

In that hour, fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king's palace, and the king saw the palm of the hand that wrote.

Then the king's countenance changed, and his thoughts alarmed him, and the joints of his hips loosened, and his knees knocked one against another.

The king cried aloud to bring in the enchanters, the Kasdim, and the diviners. The king spoke and said to the wise men of Bavel, 'Whoever reads this writing and tells me its interpretation shall be clothed in purple, and have a chain of gold around his neck, and shall rule as the third in the kingdom.'

Then all the king's wise men came in, but they could not read the writing or tell its interpretation to the king.

Then King Belshatstsar was greatly alarmed, and his countenance changed, and his nobles were perplexed.

The queen, because of the words of the king and his nobles, came into the banquet hall. The queen spoke and said, 'O king, live forever! Let your thoughts not alarm you, nor your countenance change.'

There is a man in your kingdom in whom is the spirit of the holy Elohim, and in the days of your father, light and understanding and wisdom like the wisdom of Elohim were found in him. And King Nebukhadnetstsar your father, your father the king, appointed him chief of the enchanters, magicians, Kasdim, and diviners.

Because an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting dreams, and explaining riddles, and loosening knots were found in Dani'el, whom the king named Belshatstsar. Now let Dani'el be called, and he will tell the interpretation.

Then Dani'el was brought in before the king. The king spoke and said to Dani'el, 'Are you this Dani'el, who is from the sons of the exile of Yehud, whom my father the king brought from Yehud?'

And I have heard about you that the spirit of Elohim is in you, and that light and understanding and wisdom exceeding great are found in you.

And now the wise men, the enchanters, have been brought before me, that they should read this writing and tell me its interpretation, but they have not been able to tell the interpretation of the matter.

And I have heard about you that you can interpret and loosen knots. Now if you can read the writing and tell me its interpretation, you shall be clothed in purple, and have a chain of gold around your neck, and shall rule as the third in the kingdom.'

Then Dani'el answered and said before the king, 'Let your gifts be yours, and give your rewards to others. Nevertheless, I will read the writing to the king, and I will tell him the interpretation.'

You, O king, the Most High Elohim gave sovereignty, and greatness, and glory, and majesty to Nebukhadnetstsar your father.

And because of the greatness which He gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. He killed whomever he wished, and he kept alive whomever he wished; he exalted whomever he wished, and he humbled whomever he wished.

But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit became hard so that he acted proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and his glory was taken from him.

And he was driven from the sons of men, and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. They fed him grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until he knew that the Most High Elohim rules in the kingdom of men, and sets over it whomever He wishes.

And you, his son, Belshatstsar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this.

But you have exalted yourself against the Adonai of heaven, and the vessels of His house have been brought before you, and you and your nobles, your wives, and your concubines have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the elohim of silver and gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know. And the Elohim in whose hand is your breath, and all your ways, you have not honored.

Then from His presence the palm of a hand was sent, and this writing was inscribed.

And this is the writing that was inscribed: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, and PERES.

This is the interpretation of the matter: MENE, MENE—Elohim has numbered your kingdom and brought it to an end.

TEKEL—you have been weighed in the balances and found wanting.

PERES—your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.

Then Belshatstsar commanded, and they clothed Dani'el in purple, and put a chain of gold around his neck, and proclaimed concerning him that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

In that night Belshatstsar the Kasdim king was killed.
