I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at ease in my house and flourishing in my palace.

I saw a dream, and it made me tremble, and the thoughts on my bed and the visions of my head alarmed me.

And I commanded to bring near before me all the wise men of Babylon, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream.

Then the enchanters, the sorcerers, the Chaldeans, and the astrologers came in, and I told them the dream, but they did not make its interpretation known to me.

But afterward Daniel came in before me, whose name is Belteshazzar, according to the name of my elohim, and in whom is the spirit of the holy Elohim. And I told the dream before him.

Then Belteshazzar, chief of the enchanters, said, 'I know that the spirit of the holy Elohim is in you, and no mystery is too difficult for you. Tell me the dream that you saw and its interpretation.'

And the visions of my head on my bed, I was seeing, and behold, a tree in the midst of the earth, and its height was very great.

The tree grew and became strong, and its height reached the heavens, and its sight to the end of all the earth.

Its leaves were beautiful, and its fruit was abundant, and food for all was in it. Underneath it the wild animals sheltered, and in its branches the birds of the sky dwelled, and from it all flesh ate.

I was seeing in the visions of my head on my bed, and behold, a watcher and a holy one came down from the heavens.

He cried out with strength and said, 'Cut down the tree and lop off its branches; shake off its leaves and scatter its fruit. Let the animals flee from under it, and the birds from its branches.'

However, leave the stump of its roots in the earth, and with a band of iron and bronze in the wet grass of the field; and let him be drenched with the dew of the heavens, and let his portion be with the wild animals in the grass of the earth.

Let his mind be changed from that of a man, and let the mind of an animal be given to him; and let seven times pass over him.

By the decree of watchers is the matter, and by the word of the holy ones is the request, so that the living may know that the Most High is ruler in the kingdom of men, and to whomever he wills he gives it, and he sets over it the humblest of men.

This dream I, King Nebuchadnezzar, saw. And you, Belteshazzar, tell its interpretation, because all the wise men of my kingdom were unable to make its interpretation known to me, but you are able, because the spirit of the holy Elohim is in you.'

Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonished for one hour, and his thoughts alarmed him. The king spoke and said, 'Belteshazzar, let not the dream or its interpretation alarm you.' Belteshazzar answered and said, 'My Adonai, the dream is for those who hate you, and its interpretation is for your enemies.'

The tree that you saw, which grew and became strong, and its height reached the heavens, and its sight to all the earth.

And its leaves were beautiful, and its fruit was abundant, and food for all was in it. Underneath it the wild animals dwelled, and in its branches the birds of the sky lived.

You, O king, are the one who has grown and become strong, and your greatness has grown and reached the heavens, and your dominion to the end of the earth.

And what the king saw: a watcher and a holy one came down from the heavens and said, 'Cut down the tree and destroy it; however, leave the stump of its roots in the earth, and with a band of iron and bronze in the wet grass of the field; and let him be drenched with the dew of the heavens, and let his portion be with the wild animals, until seven times pass over him.'

This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the Most High, which has come upon my Adonai the king.

And you will be driven from men, and your dwelling will be with the wild animals, and they will make you eat grass like oxen, and you will be drenched with the dew of the heavens, and seven times will pass over you, until you know that the Most High is ruler in the kingdom of men, and to whomever he wills he gives it.

And because they commanded to leave the stump of the roots of the tree, your kingdom will remain to you from the time you know that the heavens rule.

Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you. Break away from your sins by righteousness, and from your iniquities by showing mercy to the oppressed, if perhaps there may be a lengthening of your tranquility.

All this came upon Nebuchadnezzar the king.

At the end of twelve months, he was walking on the royal palace of Babylon.

The king spoke and said, 'Is this not great Babylon, which I have built as a royal house by the might of my strength and for the honor of my glory?'

Still the word was in the king's mouth, a voice from the heavens fell, saying to you, King Nebuchadnezzar, the kingdom has departed from you.

And you will be driven from men, and your dwelling will be with the wild animals, and they will make you eat grass like oxen, and seven times will pass over you, until you know that the Most High is ruler in the kingdom of men, and to whomever he wills he gives it.

In that very hour the word was fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar, and he was driven from men, and he ate grass like oxen, and his body was drenched with the dew of the heavens, until his hair grew like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

And at the end of the days, I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to the heavens, and my understanding returned to me. And I blessed the Most High, and praised and honored him who lives forever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation.

And all the inhabitants of the earth are considered as nothing, and he does according to his will in the host of the heavens and among the inhabitants of the earth, and there is no one who can strike his hand or say to him, 'What have you done?'

At that time my understanding returned to me, and the honor of my kingdom, my splendor, and my radiance returned to me. And my counselors and my nobles sought me out, and I was established in my kingdom, and more greatness was added to me.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and honor the King of the heavens, because all his works are true, and his ways are just, and he is able to humble those who walk in pride.
