Thus יהוה Adonai showed me, and behold, a basket of summer fruit.

And he said, 'What do you see, Amos?' And I said, 'A basket of summer fruit.' And יהוה said to me, 'The end has come upon my people Yisra'el; I will not pass by them again.'

And the songs of the temple will wail on that day,' declares Adonai יהוה. 'There will be many dead bodies; in every place they will throw them out in silence.'

Hear this, you who trample the needy and oppress the poor of the land.'

'When will the new moon pass, so we can sell grain? And the Sabbath, so we can open the wheat market, making the ephah smaller and the shekel larger, and falsifying scales of deceit?'

'To buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals, and to sell the leftover grain.'

יהוה has sworn by the pride of Ya'aqov, 'I will never forget all their deeds.'

'Because of this, will not the land tremble, and everyone living in it mourn? And it will rise up entirely like the Nile, and be cast down and submerged like the Nile of Mitsrayim.'

'And on that day,' declares Adonai יהוה, 'I will make the sun set at noon, and I will darken the land on a bright day.'

'And I will turn your festivals into mourning, and all your songs into a lament. And I will bring sackcloth upon every waist and baldness on every head. And I will make it like the mourning for an only son, and its end like a bitter day.'

'Behold, days are coming,' declares Adonai יהוה, 'and I will send a famine on the land—not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of יהוה.'

'And they will wander from sea to sea, and from north to east. They will roam, seeking the word of יהוה, but will not find it.'

'On that day, the beautiful virgins and the young men will faint from thirst.'

'Those who swear by the guilt of Shomron, and say, 'As your Elohim lives, Dan!' and, 'As the way of Beer-Sheva lives!' they will fall and will not rise again.'
