So Adonai יהוה showed me, and behold, a maker of pots, at the beginning of the late spring growth, and behold, late spring growth after the king's shearings.

And it happened, if he finished eating the grass of the land, and I said, 'Adonai יהוה, please forgive! Who will stand? Ya'aqov, for he is small.'

יהוה relented concerning this. 'It will not be,' Adonai יהוה said.

So Adonai יהוה showed me, and behold, Adonai יהוה was calling to contend with fire, and it consumed the great deep, and it consumed the portion.

And I said, 'Adonai יהוה, please cease! Who will stand? Ya'aqov, for he is small.'

Adonai יהוה relented concerning this. 'This also will not be,' Adonai יהוה said.

So He showed me, and behold, Adonai was standing upon a wall of plumb line, and in His hand a plumb line.

And יהוה said to me, 'What do you see, Amos?' And I said, 'A plumb line.' And Adonai said, 'Behold, I am placing a plumb line in the midst of My people Yisra'el. I will not again pass over them.'

And the high places of Yitsḥaq will become desolate, and the sanctuaries of Yisra'el will be ruined, and I will rise against the house of Yarov'am with a sword.'

And Amatsyah, the priest of Beth-El, sent to Yarov'am, king of Yisra'el, saying, 'Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Yisra'el. The land is not able to bear all his words.'

For thus says Amos, 'By sword Yarov'am will die, and Yisra'el will surely be exiled from its land.'

And Amatsyah said to Amos, 'O seer, go, flee for yourself to the land of Yehudah, and eat bread there, and prophesy there.'

But to Beth-El you will not again prophesy, for it is a royal sanctuary, and it is a royal house.'

And Amos answered and said to Amatsyah, 'I am not a prophet, nor am I a son of a prophet. For I am a herdsman, and a dresser of sycamore figs.'

And יהוה took me from following the flock, and יהוה said to me, 'Go, prophesy to My people Yisra'el.'

And now, hear the word of יהוה. You say, 'Do not prophesy against Yisra'el, and do not drip against the house of Yitsḥaq.'

Therefore, thus says יהוה: Your wife will act as a prostitute in the city, and your sons and your daughters will fall by the sword, and your land will be divided by a measuring line. And you yourself will die on unclean ground, and Yisra'el will surely be exiled from its land.'
