For the music leader, a psalm of David.

I waited, I waited for יהוה, and he leaned toward me and heard my cry.

And he lifted me up from the pit of destruction, from the muddy mire, and he set my feet on a rock, he made my steps firm.

And he put a new song in my mouth, praise to our Elohim; many will see and will fear and will trust in יהוה.

Happy is the man who has made יהוה his trust, and has not turned to the proud, and to those who turn aside to lies.

Many things you have done, O יהוה my Elohim, your wonders and your thoughts toward us; there is no comparison to you. I would declare and speak; they are too many to count.

Sacrifice and offering you did not desire; ears you have opened for me; burnt offering and sin offering you did not ask for.

Then I said, 'Behold, I have come; in the scroll of a book it is written about me.'

To do your will, my Elohim, I have desired, and your law is within my inward parts.

I have proclaimed righteousness in a great assembly; behold, my lips I will not restrain, O יהוה, you know.

Your righteousness I have not hidden within my heart; your faithfulness and your salvation I have spoken; I have not concealed your lovingkindness and your truth from a great assembly.

You, O יהוה, will not withhold your compassion from me; your lovingkindness and your truth will always preserve me.

For evils have surrounded me, so that there is no number; my iniquities have overtaken me, and I am unable to see; they are more numerous than the hairs of my head, and my heart has forsaken me.

Be pleased, O יהוה, to deliver me; O יהוה, to my help, hasten.

Let those who seek my life be ashamed and confounded together; let those who desire my harm be turned back and be disgraced.

Let those who say to me, 'Aha! Aha!' be desolate because of their shame.

Let all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; let those who love your salvation say continually, 'May יהוה be magnified.'

But I am afflicted and needy; Adonai will think about me; you are my help and my deliverer; my Elohim, do not delay.
