I said, I will guard my ways, from sinning with my tongue. I will guard my mouth with a muzzle, while the wicked one is before me.

I became silent, I was quiet, I held back from good, and my pain was stirred up.

My heart grew hot within me; in my meditation, a fire burned. I spoke with my tongue.

Make known to me, יהוה, my end, and the measure of my days, what it is, so that I may know what I am leaving behind.

Behold, you have made my days like handbreadths, and the length of my life is like nothing before you. Surely, all mankind is only vanity. Selah.

Surely, man walks about like an image; surely, they make a commotion for vanity. He heaps up, and does not know who will gather them.

And now, what have I waited for? My hope is in you, Adonai.

From all my transgressions, deliver me. Do not make me the reproach of the foolish.

I became silent; I will not open my mouth, because you have done it.

Remove your stroke from me; from the striking of your hand, I am consumed.

With rebukes for iniquity, you disciplined a man, and you made him waste away like a moth. Surely, all mankind is only vanity. Selah.

Hear my prayer, יהוה, and my cry; give attention to my tears. Do not be silent, for I am a sojourner with you, a resident, like all my fathers.

Spare me, so that I may recover, before I go away and am no more.
