And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying:

Take vengeance for the בני Yisra'el from the Midyanim, afterward you will be gathered to your people.

And Mosheh spoke to the people, saying, 'Arm men from among you for the army, and let them be against Midyan, to give the vengeance of יהוה on Midyan.'

A thousand from the tribe, a thousand from the tribe, for all the tribes of Yisra'el you shall send to the army.

And there were delivered from the thousands of Yisra'el, a thousand from the tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.

And Mosheh sent them, a thousand from the tribe, to the army, them and Pinchas, son of El'azar the priest, to the army, and the holy vessels and the trumpets of the alarm in his hand.

And they warred against Midyan, as יהוה commanded Mosheh, and they killed every male.

And the kings of Midyan they killed, with their slain: Evi, and Rekem, and Tsur, and Hur, and Reva, the five kings of Midyan. And Bil'am, son of Be'or, they killed with the sword.

And the בני Yisra'el took captive the women of Midyan and their little ones, and all their livestock, and all their possessions, and all their wealth they plundered.

And all their cities in their dwelling places, and all their encampments they burned with fire.

And they took all the spoil and all the plunder, in people and in livestock.

And they brought the captives and the plunder and the spoil to Mosheh, and to El'azar the priest, and to the assembly of the בני Yisra'el, to the camp in the plains of Mo'av, which are by the Yarden, near Yericho.

And Mosheh and El'azar the priest and all the leaders of the assembly went out to meet them, outside the camp.

And Mosheh was angry with the officers of the host, the captains of the thousands and the captains of the hundreds, who came from the army of war.

And Mosheh said to them, 'Have you kept alive every female?'

Behold, these were to the בני Yisra'el, by the word of Bil'am, to commit treachery against יהוה concerning the matter of Pe'or, and there was the plague in the assembly of יהוה.

And now, kill every male among the little ones, and every woman who knows a man intimately, kill.

And all the little ones among the women, who have not known a man intimately, keep alive for yourselves.

And you, encamp outside the camp seven days. Everyone who killed a person and everyone who touched a slain person, you shall purify yourselves on the third day and on the seventh day, you and your captives.

And every garment and every leather article and every work of goats' hair and every wooden article, you shall purify.

And El'azar the priest said to the men of the army who went to war, 'This is the statute of the law which יהוה commanded Mosheh.'

'Only the gold and the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin, and the lead.'

'Everything that comes into fire, you shall pass through fire, and it shall be clean. Only with the water of purification shall it be purified. And everything that does not come into fire, you shall pass through water.'

'And you shall wash your garments on the seventh day, and you shall be clean, and afterward you shall come into the camp.'

And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying:

'Take up the head count of the plunder, of the people and of the livestock, you and El'azar the priest and the heads of the fathers of the assembly.'

'And you shall divide the plunder between the warriors who went out to the army and all the assembly.'

'And you shall set apart a tax for יהוה from the men of war who went out to the army, one person from five hundred, from the people, and from the cattle, and from the donkeys, and from the sheep.'

'From their half you shall take, and you shall give to El'azar the priest, a contribution for יהוה.'

'And from the half of the בני Yisra'el you shall take one portion from fifty, from the people, from the cattle, from the donkeys, and from the sheep, from all the livestock, and you shall give them to the Levites, keepers of the charge of the tabernacle of יהוה.'

'And Mosheh and El'azar the priest did as יהוה commanded Mosheh.'

'And the plunder, the remainder of the spoil that the army plundered, was sheep: six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand.'

'And cattle: seventy-two thousand.'

'And donkeys: sixty-one thousand.'

'And people, from the women who had not known a man intimately, every person: thirty-two thousand.'

'And the half, the portion of those who went out to the army, the number of sheep: three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred.'

'And the tax for יהוה from the sheep was six hundred and seventy-five.'

'And the cattle: thirty-six thousand, and their tax for יהוה: seventy-two.'

'And the donkeys: thirty thousand and five hundred, and their tax for יהוה: sixty-one.'

'And people: sixteen thousand, and their tax for יהוה: thirty-two people.'

And Mosheh gave the tax of the contribution for יהוה to El'azar the priest, as יהוה commanded Mosheh.

And from the half of the בני Yisra'el, which Mosheh divided from the men who were warring,

And the half of the assembly, from the sheep, was three hundred thousand and thirty thousand, seven thousand and five hundred.

And cattle: thirty-six thousand.

And donkeys: thirty thousand and five hundred.

And people: sixteen thousand.

And Mosheh took from the half of the בני Yisra'el the portion, one from fifty, from the people and from the livestock, and he gave them to the Levites, keepers of the charge of the tabernacle of יהוה, as יהוה commanded Mosheh.

And the officers who were over the thousands of the army, the captains of the thousands and the captains of the hundreds, came near to Mosheh.

And they said to Mosheh, 'Your servants have taken the census of the men of war who are in our hand, and not one man has been missed from us.'

'And we have brought the offering of יהוה, each man what he found, a gold article: a bracelet and a wristband, a ring, an earring, and a necklace, to make atonement for our lives before יהוה.'

And Mosheh and El'azar the priest took the gold from them, every article of workmanship.

And all the gold of the contribution which they offered to יהוה was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels, from the captains of the thousands and from the captains of the hundreds.

The men of the army plundered, each man for himself.

And Mosheh and El'azar the priest took the gold from the captains of the thousands and the hundreds, and they brought it into the Tent of Meeting, a memorial for the בני Yisra'el before יהוה.
