And all the assembly lifted up their voice, and the people wept on that night.

And all the sons of Yisra'el grumbled against Mosheh and against Aharon, and all the assembly said to them, 'If only we had died in the land of Mitsrayim, or if only we had died in this wilderness.'

'And why is יהוה bringing us to this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become plunder. Is it not better for us to return to Mitsrayim?'

'And they said, one to another, 'Let us appoint a head, and let us return to Mitsrayim.''

'And Mosheh and Aharon fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the sons of Yisra'el.'

'And Yehoshua the son of Nun and Kalev the son of Yefunneh, from the spies of the land, tore their garments.'

'And they said to all the assembly of the sons of Yisra'el, saying, 'The land which we passed through to spy it out, the land is exceedingly good.'

'If יהוה delights in us, then He will bring us to this land and give it to us, a land flowing with milk and honey.'

'Only do not rebel against יהוה, and you, do not fear the people of the land, for they are our bread. Their shadow has departed from them, and יהוה is with us. Do not fear them.'

'And all the assembly said to stone them with stones, and the glory of יהוה appeared in the tent of meeting to all the sons of Yisra'el.'

'And יהוה said to Mosheh, 'How long will this people provoke Me? And how long will they not believe in Me, because of all the signs which I have done in their midst?'

'I will strike them with pestilence and disinherit them, and I will make you into a nation greater and mightier than they.'

'And Mosheh said to יהוה, 'And the Mitsrayim will hear, for You brought this people up from their midst with Your strength.'

'And they will say to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that You, יהוה, are in the midst of this people, that You, יהוה, are seen face to face, and Your cloud stands over them, and in a pillar of cloud You go before them by day, and in a pillar of fire by night.'

'And if You kill this people as one man, then the nations who have heard of Your fame will say, saying,'

'Because יהוה was not able to bring this people to the land which He swore to them, so He slaughtered them in the wilderness.'

'And now, please let the power of Adonai be great, as You have spoken, saying,'

'יהוה is slow to anger and abundant in kindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and He will not acquit. He visits the iniquity of fathers upon sons, upon the third and upon the fourth generation.'

'Please forgive the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of Your kindness, and as You have forgiven this people from Mitsrayim until now.'

'And יהוה said, 'I have forgiven according to your word.'

'But as I live, and the glory of יהוה will fill all the earth.'

'Because all the men who have seen My glory and My signs, which I did in Mitsrayim and in the wilderness, and have tested Me these ten times, and have not listened to My voice.'

'They will not see the land which I swore to their fathers, and none who provoke Me will see it.'

'But My servant Kalev, because he had another spirit with him, and he followed Me fully, I will bring him into the land which he went into, and his seed will inherit it.'

'And the 'Amaleqi and the Kena'ani dwell in the valley. Tomorrow turn and journey for yourselves into the wilderness by the way of the Sea of Reeds.'

'And יהוה spoke to Mosheh and to Aharon, saying,'

'How long will this evil assembly grumble against Me? I have heard the grumblings of the sons of Yisra'el, which they grumble against Me.'

'Say to them, 'As I live, declares יהוה, surely as you have spoken in My ears, so I will do to you.'

'In this wilderness your carcasses will fall, and all who were numbered of you, according to all your numbers, from twenty years old and upward, who have grumbled against Me.'

'You will not come into the land which I lifted up My hand to cause you to dwell in it, except for Kalev the son of Yefunneh and Yehoshua the son of Nun.'

'And your little ones, whom you said would become plunder, I will bring them in, and they will know the land which you have rejected.'

'And your carcasses, you, will fall in this wilderness.'

'And your sons will be shepherds in the wilderness forty years, and they will bear your whoredoms until your carcasses are finished in the wilderness.'

'According to the number of the days which you spied out the land, forty days, a day for a year, a day for a year, you will bear your iniquities forty years, and you will know My displeasure.'

'I, יהוה, have spoken. If this is not what I will do to all this evil assembly who are gathered against Me in this wilderness, they will be consumed, and there they will die.'

'And the men whom Mosheh sent to spy out the land, and who returned, caused all the assembly to grumble against him, to bring a bad report about the land.'

'And the men who brought the bad report about the land died by the plague before יהוה.'

'But Yehoshua the son of Nun and Kalev the son of Yefunneh remained alive from those men who went to spy out the land.'

'And Mosheh spoke these words to all the sons of Yisra'el, and the people mourned greatly.'

'And they rose up in the morning and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, 'Here we are, and we will go up to the place which יהוה has said, for we have sinned.''

And Mosheh said, 'Why is this? You transgress the command of יהוה, and it will not succeed.'

'Do not go up, because יהוה is not in your midst, and you will be struck down before your enemies.'

'Because the 'Amaleqi and the Kena'ani are there before you, and you will fall by the sword. Because you turned back from following יהוה, יהוה will not be with you.'

'But they presumptuously went up to the top of the mountain, and the ark of the covenant of יהוה and Mosheh did not depart from the midst of the camp.'

'And the 'Amaleqi and the Kena'ani who dwelt in that mountain came down, and they struck them and beat them down as far as Hormah.'
