And the men of Efrayim said to him, 'What is this thing you have done to us, not calling us when you went to fight in Midyan?' And they argued with him sharply.

And he said to them, 'What have I done now like you? Is not the gleaning of Efrayim better than the vintage of Aviezer?'

Elohim has given the princes of Midyan into your hand, Orev and Zev, and what could I do like you?' Then their spirit grew weak when he spoke this word.

And Gid'on came to the Yarden, he and the three hundred men who were with him, weary and pursuing.

And he said to the men of Sukkot, 'Please give loaves of bread to the people who are with my feet, for they are weary, and I am pursuing Zevach and Tsalmunna, kings of Midyan.'

And the princes of Sukkot said, 'Is Zevach and Tsalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your army?'

And Gid'on said, 'Therefore, when יהוה gives Zevach and Tsalmunna into my hand, then I will thresh your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with the briers.'

And he went up from there to Penu'el and spoke to them likewise, and the men of Penu'el answered him as the men of Sukkot had answered.

And he also said to the men of Penu'el, 'When I return in peace, I will tear down this tower.'

And Zevach and Tsalmunna were in Qarqor, and their camps with them, about fifteen thousand, all who were left of all the camps of the sons of the East, and those who fell were a hundred and twenty thousand men, drawing swords.

And Gid'on went up by the way of the tent dwellers, east of Novach and Ygbehah, and struck the camp, and the camp felt secure.

And Zevach and Tsalmunna fled, and he pursued them, and he captured the two kings of Midyan, Zevach and Tsalmunna, and routed all the camp.

And Gid'on son of Yo'ash returned from the battle from the ascent of Cheres.

And he captured a young man from the men of Sukkot, and he questioned him, and he wrote down for him the princes of Sukkot and its elders, seventy-seven men.

And he came to the men of Sukkot and said, 'Behold Zevach and Tsalmunna, concerning whom you taunted me, saying, 'Is Zevach and Tsalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your weary men?''

And he took the elders of the city, and the thorns of the wilderness, and the briers, and with them he disciplined the men of Sukkot.

And he tore down the tower of Penu'el and killed the men of the city.

And he said to Zevach and Tsalmunna, 'Where are the men whom you killed at Tabor?' And they said, 'Like you, like them, each one like the appearance of the king's sons.'

And he said, 'They were my brothers, my mother's sons. As יהוה lives, if you had kept them alive, I would not have killed you.'

And he said to Yeter, his firstborn, 'Arise, kill them.' But the young man did not draw his sword, for he was afraid, because he was still a youth.

And Zevach and Tsalmunna said, 'Arise yourself and strike us, for as the man is, so is his strength.' And Gid'on arose and killed Zevach and Tsalmunna, and took the crescent ornaments that were on their camels' necks.

And the men of Yisra'el said to Gid'on, 'Rule over us, both you and your son, and your son's son, for you have saved us from the hand of Midyan.'

And Gid'on said to them, 'I will not rule over you, nor will my son rule over you; יהוה will rule over you.'

And Gid'on said to them, 'I will ask of you a request, and you shall give me each man the earring of his spoil, for they had golden earrings because they were Ishmaelites.'

And they said, 'We will surely give.' And they spread out a garment, and each man threw there the earring of his spoil.

And the weight of the golden earrings that he asked for was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold, apart from the crescent ornaments and the pendants and the purple garments that were on the kings of Midyan, and apart from the necklaces that were on their camels' necks.

And Gid'on made it into an ephod and set it up in his city, in Ofrah, and all Yisra'el prostituted themselves after it there, and it became a snare to Gid'on and to his house.

And Midyan was humbled before the sons of Yisra'el, and they did not again lift up their heads, and the land was quiet for forty years in the days of Gid'on.

And Yeruba'al son of Yo'ash went and lived in his house.

And Gid'on had seventy sons coming from his loins, for he had many wives.

And his concubine who was in Shkhem, she also bore him a son, and he named his name Avimelekh.

And Gid'on son of Yo'ash died in a good old age, and he was buried in the grave of Yo'ash his father, in Ofrah of the Aviezeri.

And it happened, as Gid'on died, that the sons of Yisra'el turned and prostituted themselves after the Ba'alim, and they set up for themselves Ba'al-Berit as their Elohim.

And the sons of Yisra'el did not remember יהוה their Elohim, who had saved them from the hand of all their enemies all around.

And they did not show kindness to the house of Yeruba'al, Gid'on, according to all the good that he had done to Yisra'el.
