And Yeruba'al, he is Gid'on, and all the people who were with him, got up early, and they encamped by the spring of Ḥarod. And the camp of Midyan was to his north, from Giv'at ha-Moreh in the valley.

And יהוה said to Gid'on, 'The people who are with you are too many for me to give Midyan into their hand, lest Yisra'el boast against me, saying, 'My own hand saved me.'

And now, please call out in the hearing of the people, saying, 'Whoever is fearful and trembling, let him turn back and go away from Mount Gil'ad.' And twenty-two thousand turned back from the people, and ten thousand remained.

And יהוה said to Gid'on, 'The people are still too many; bring them down to the water, and I will test them for you there. And it will be that whoever I say to you, 'This one will go with you,' he will go with you. And whoever I say to you, 'This one will not go with you,' he will not go.'

And he brought the people down to the water. And יהוה said to Gid'on, 'Everyone who laps with his tongue from the water, like a dog laps, you shall set him aside. And everyone who kneels on his knees to drink.'

And the number of those who lapped with their hand to their mouth was three hundred men. And all the rest of the people knelt on their knees to drink water.

And יהוה said to Gid'on, 'By the three hundred men who lapped, I will save you, and I will give Midyan into your hand. And all the people will go, each to his place.'

And the people took their provisions in their hands, and their trumpets. And he sent every man of Yisra'el, each to his tent, but he kept the three hundred men. And the camp of Midyan was below him in the valley.

And it happened on that night that יהוה said to him, 'Get up, go down against the camp, for I have given it into your hand.'

And if you are afraid to go down, go down, you and Purah your servant, to the camp.

And you will hear what they say, and afterward your hands will be strengthened, and you will go down against the camp.' And he went down, he and Purah his servant, to the outskirts of the armed men who were in the camp.

And Midyan and Amalek and all the sons of the East were lying in the valley like locusts in multitude, and their camels were without number, like the sand on the seashore in multitude.

And Gid'on came, and behold, a man was telling a dream to his companion, and he said, 'Behold, I dreamed a dream, and behold, a cake of barley bread was tumbling into the camp of Midyan, and it came to the tent and struck it, and it fell, and it overturned it upwards, and the tent fell.'

And his companion answered and said, 'This is nothing other than the sword of Gid'on, son of Yo'ash, a man of Yisra'el. Elohim has given Midyan and all the camp into his hand.'

And it happened when Gid'on heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, that he bowed down. And he returned to the camp of Yisra'el and said, 'Get up, for יהוה has given the camp of Midyan into your hand.'

And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put trumpets in the hand of each of them, and empty jars, and torches inside the jars.

And he said to them, 'Look at me, and do likewise. And behold, I am coming to the outskirts of the camp, and it will be that as I do, so you will do.

And I will blow the trumpet, I and all who are with me, and you will blow the trumpets also, all around the entire camp, and you will say, 'For יהוה and for Gid'on!'

And Gid'on and the hundred men who were with him came to the outskirts of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch; they had just set the guards, and they blew the trumpets, and the jars that were in their hands were broken.

And the three companies blew the trumpets, and they broke the jars, and they held in their left hand the torches, and in their right hand the trumpets to blow. And they cried out, 'A sword for יהוה and for Gid'on!'

And each man stood in his place around the camp, and the entire camp ran, and they shouted and fled.

And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and יהוה set the sword of each man against his companion, and against all the camp. And the camp fled to Beit-Shittah, toward Tsererah, to the border of Av'el-Meḥolah, by Tabbath.

And the men of Yisra'el were called out from Naphtali and from Asher and from all of Menasheh, and they pursued after Midyan.

And Gid'on sent messengers throughout all the hill country of Efrayim, saying, 'Come down to meet Midyan, and capture the waters for them, as far as Beit-Barah, and the Yarden.' And all the men of Efrayim were called out, and they captured the waters as far as Beit-Barah, and the Yarden.

And they captured two princes of Midyan, Orev and Z'ev. And they killed Orev at the rock of Orev, and they killed Z'ev at the wine press of Z'ev. And they pursued Midyan, and they brought the heads of Orev and Z'ev to Gid'on from across the Yarden.
