A man was in the land of Ut, Iyov his name, and this man was whole and upright, and fearing Elohim, and turning from evil.

And seven sons were born to him, and three daughters.

And his livestock was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred pairs of oxen, and five hundred female donkeys, and very much service, and this man was great above all the sons of the East.

And his sons would go and make a feast in the house of each man his day, and they would send and call their three sisters to eat and drink with them.

And it was when the days of the feast completed, that Iyov would send and sanctify them, and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings, the number of them all, for Iyov said, 'Perhaps my sons have sinned and blessed Elohim in their hearts.' Thus Iyov would do all the days.

And it was the day, and the sons of Elohim came to present themselves before יהוה, and the Satan also came among them.

And יהוה said to the Satan, 'From where do you come?' And the Satan answered יהוה and said, 'From roaming the earth and from walking in it.'

And יהוה said to the Satan, 'Have you set your heart on my servant Iyov, for there is none like him on the earth, a man whole and upright, fearing Elohim, and turning from evil?'

And the Satan answered יהוה and said, 'Is it for nothing that Iyov fears Elohim?'

Have you not fenced him in, and his house, and all that belongs to him all around? The work of his hands you have blessed, and his livestock has spread in the land.

But stretch out your hand and touch all that belongs to him; if not, to your face he will bless you.'

And יהוה said to the Satan, 'Behold, all that belongs to him is in your hand; only against him do not stretch out your hand.' And the Satan went out from the presence of יהוה.

And it was the day, and his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in the house of their oldest brother.

And a messenger came to Iyov and said, 'The oxen were plowing, and the donkeys were grazing beside them.

And Sheba fell and took them, and the young men they struck by the edge of the sword, and I alone escaped to tell you.'

While this one was still speaking, another came and said, 'Fire of Elohim fell from the heavens and burned among the sheep and the young men, and consumed them, and I alone escaped to tell you.'

While this one was still speaking, another came and said, 'The Kasdim set themselves in three bands, and raided the camels, and took them, and the young men they struck by the edge of the sword, and I alone escaped to tell you.'

While this one was still speaking, another came and said, 'Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in the house of their oldest brother.

And behold, a great wind came from beyond the wilderness, and it struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young men, and they died, and I alone escaped to tell you.'

And Iyov rose up, and tore his robe, and shaved his head, and fell to the ground, and bowed down.

And he said, 'Naked I came out from my mother's womb, and naked I will return there. יהוה gave, and יהוה took. Let the name of יהוה be blessed.'

In all this, Iyov did not sin, nor did he ascribe foolishness to Elohim.
