And there a man of worthlessness was called, and his name was Sheva son of Bikri, a Yeminite man. And he blew a horn and said, 'We have no part in David, and no inheritance with the son of Yishai. Every man to his tents, Yisra'el!'

And every man of Yisra'el went up from after David, after Sheva son of Bikri. And the men of Yehudah clung to their king, from the Yarden even to Yerushalayim.

And David came to his house in Yerushalayim. And the king took the ten women, concubines whom he had left to guard the house, and put them in a house of guarding, and provided for them, and did not go in to them. And they were shut up until the day of their death, living widows.

And the king said to Amasa, 'Summons for me the men of Yehudah three days, and you, stand here.'

And Amasa went to summon Yehudah, and he delayed beyond the appointed time which he had set for him.

And David said to Abishai, 'Now Sheva son of Bikri will do us more harm than Absalom. You, take your master's servants and pursue him, lest he find for himself fortified cities and deliver himself from our eyes.'

And the men of Yo'av, and the Kerti, and the Pleti, and all the mighty men went out after him. And they went out from Yerushalayim to pursue Sheva son of Bikri.

They were with the great stone which is in Giv'on. And Amasa came before them. And Yo'av was wearing his battle tunic, and upon it a belt with a sword fastened to his waist in its sheath, and he went out, and it fell.

And Yo'av said to Amasa, 'Is it well with you, my brother?' And Yo'av's right hand grasped Amasa by the beard to kiss him.

And Amasa was not on guard concerning the sword which was in Yo'av's hand. And he struck him with it in the fifth rib, and spilled his innards to the ground. And he did not repeat it, and he died. And Yo'av and his brother Abishai pursued after Sheva son of Bikri.

And one of Yo'av's young men stood over him and said, 'Whoever favors Yo'av and whoever is for David, after Yo'av!'

And Amasa was rolling in blood in the middle of the pathway. And the man saw that all the people had stopped. And he moved Amasa from the pathway to the field, and threw a garment over him when he saw that everyone who came upon him stopped.

When he had been moved from the pathway, every man passed after Yo'av to pursue after Sheva son of Bikri.

And they passed through all the tribes of Yisra'el to Avela and to Beit-HaMa'akha, and all the Beri. And they gathered and also came after him.

And they came and besieged him in Avela of Beit-HaMa'akha, and they poured up a rampart against the city, and it stood on the rampart. And all the people who were with Yo'av were destroying to make the wall fall.

And a wise woman cried out from the city, 'Hear, hear! Speak, please, to Yo'av, 'Come near here, and I will speak to you.''

And he came near to her. And the woman said, 'Are you Yo'av?' And he said, 'I am.' And she said to him, 'Hear the words of your servant.' And he said, 'I am listening.'

And she spoke, saying, 'They used to speak in the first place, saying, 'They will surely ask in Avela,' and so they finished.'

I am one who seeks peace, a faithful one of Yisra'el. You are seeking to kill a city and a mother in Yisra'el. Why do you swallow the inheritance of יהוה?

And Yo'av answered and said, 'Far be it, far be it from me, if I swallow or if I destroy.'

This is not the matter. But a man from the hill country of Efrayim, Sheva son of Bikri, his name, has lifted his hand against the king, against David. Give him alone, and I will go away from the city.' And the woman said to Yo'av, 'Behold, his head will be thrown to you over the wall.'

And the woman came to all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheva son of Bikri, and threw it to Yo'av. And he blew the horn, and they scattered from the city, every man to his tents. And Yo'av returned to Yerushalayim to the king.

And Yo'av was over all the army of Yisra'el. And Benayahu son of Yehoyada was over the Kerti and over the Pleti.

And Adoram was over the forced labor. And Yehoshafat son of Ahilud was the recorder.

And Sheva the scribe was there. And Tsadoq and Evyatar were priests.

And also Ira the Yairi was a priest to David.
