And they got up the next morning, and behold, Dagon was fallen on his face to the ground before the Ark of יהוה. And the head of Dagon and the two palms of his hands were cut off on the threshold; only Dagon was left on him.

And the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, and said, The Ark of the Elohim of Yisra'el shall not abide with us, for his hand is heavy upon us and upon Dagon our elohim.

And they sent and gathered all the rulers of the Pelishtim to them, and said, What shall we do with the Ark of the Elohim of Yisra'el? And they said, Let the Ark of the Elohim of Yisra'el be moved to Gath. And they moved the Ark of the Elohim of Yisra'el.

And it came to pass, after they moved it, that the hand of יהוה was in the city with a great destruction, and he smote the men of the city, from the least to the greatest, and they were smitten with tumors.

And they sent the Ark of the Elohim to 'Ekron. And it came to pass, when the Ark of the Elohim came to 'Ekron, that the 'Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought the Ark of the Elohim of Yisra'el to us to kill me and my people.

And they sent and gathered all the rulers of the Pelishtim, and said, Send away the Ark of the Elohim of Yisra'el, and let it return to its place, and not kill me and my people. For there was a deadly destruction throughout the city; the hand of the Elohim was very heavy there.
