And it happened in those days, and the Pelishtim gathered their camps for war to fight against Yisra'el. And Akish said to David, 'You will surely know that you and your men will go out with me in the camp.'

And David said to Akish, 'Therefore you will know what your servant will do.' And Akish said to David, 'Therefore, I will make you keeper of my head all the days.'

And Shemu'el died, and all Yisra'el mourned for him, and they buried him in Ramah and in his city. And Sha'ul removed the mediums and the spiritists from the land.

And the Pelishtim gathered and came and encamped in Shunem. And Sha'ul gathered all Yisra'el, and they encamped in Gilbo'a.

And Sha'ul saw the camp of the Pelishtim, and he feared, and his heart trembled greatly.

And Sha'ul inquired of יהוה, and יהוה did not answer him, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

And Sha'ul said to his servants, 'Seek for me a woman who is a medium, and I will go to her and inquire of her.' And his servants said to him, 'Behold, there is a woman who is a medium in En-Dor.'

And Sha'ul disguised himself and put on other clothes, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night. And he said, 'Diviner for me by spirit, and bring up for me the one whom I will tell you.'

And the woman said to him, 'Behold, you know what Sha'ul did, how he cut off the mediums and the spiritists from the land. And why are you seeking my life to kill me?'

And Sha'ul swore to her by יהוה, saying, 'As יהוה lives, if any guilt comes upon you for this matter.'

And the woman said, 'Whom shall I bring up for you?' And he said, 'Bring up Shemu'el for me.'

And the woman saw Shemu'el, and she cried out with a loud voice. And the woman said to Sha'ul, saying, 'Why have you deceived me? For you are Sha'ul.'

And the king said to her, 'Do not fear. For what did you see?' And the woman said to Sha'ul, 'I saw elohim ascending from the earth.'

And he said to her, 'What is his appearance?' And she said, 'An old man is ascending, and he is wearing a robe.' And Sha'ul knew that it was Shemu'el, and he bowed his face to the ground, and prostrated himself.

And Shemu'el said to Sha'ul, 'Why have you disturbed me to bring me up?' And Sha'ul said, 'I am greatly distressed. For the Pelishtim are fighting against me, and Elohim has turned away from me and does not answer me anymore, neither by the hand of prophets, nor by dreams. And I have called you to inform me what I should do.'

And Shemu'el said, 'And why do you ask me, since יהוה has turned away from you and has become your enemy?'

And יהוה has done to him as he spoke by my hand. And יהוה has torn the kingdom out of your hand and has given it to your neighbor, to David.

Because you did not obey the voice of יהוה, and did not do His fierce anger against Amalek, therefore יהוה has done this thing to you today.

And יהוה will also give Yisra'el with you into the hand of the Pelishtim. And tomorrow, you and your sons will be with me. יהוה will also give the camp of Yisra'el into the hand of the Pelishtim.'

And Sha'ul hurried and fell on his full height to the ground, and he greatly feared because of the words of Shemu'el. Also, strength was not in him, for he had not eaten bread all day and all night.

And the woman came to Sha'ul, and she saw that he was greatly shaken. And she said to him, 'Behold, your servant has obeyed your voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and I have obeyed your words which you spoke to me.'

And now, please obey also the voice of your servant, and I will set before you a piece of bread, and you will eat, and there will be strength in you when you go on your way.'

And he refused and said, 'I will not eat.' And his servants urged him, and also the woman. And he listened to their voice, and he got up from the ground and sat on the couch.

And the woman had a fattened calf in the house, and she hurried and slaughtered it. And she took flour and kneaded it, and baked unleavened cakes of it.

And she brought it before Sha'ul and before his servants, and they ate. And they got up and went that night.
