At that time, Aviyah, son of Yarov'am, became sick.

And Yarov'am said to his wife, 'Rise now, and disguise yourself so that they will not know you are the wife of Yarov'am, and go to Shiloh. Look, there is the prophet Aḥiyah. He is the one who spoke to me concerning this people as king.'

And take in your hand ten loaves of bread, and some dried cakes, and a jar of honey, and go to him. He will tell you what will happen to the boy.'

And the wife of Yarov'am did so, and rose and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Aḥiyah. Now Aḥiyah could not see, for his eyes had become dim from age.

And יהוה said to Aḥiyah, 'Look, the wife of Yarov'am is coming to ask a matter from you concerning her son, for he is sick. This is what you shall say to her. And when she comes, she will pretend to be someone else.'

And it happened, when Aḥiyah heard the sound of her feet coming at the doorway, he said, 'Come in, wife of Yarov'am. Why are you pretending to be someone else? I have been sent to you with harsh news.'

'Go, tell Yarov'am, 'Thus says יהוה, the Elohim of Yisra'el: Because I exalted you from among the people and appointed you ruler over My people Yisra'el,

and I tore the kingdom from the house of David and gave it to you, yet you have not been like My servant David, who kept My commandments and who followed Me with all his heart, doing only what was right in My eyes.

But you have acted worse than all who were before you, and you have gone and made for yourself other elohim and metal images to provoke Me to anger, and you have cast Me behind your back.

Therefore, behold, I am bringing disaster upon the house of Yarov'am, and I will cut off from Yarov'am every male, both the confined and the free in Yisra'el, and I will utterly consume the house of Yarov'am, as one consumes dung until it is all gone.

Those belonging to Yarov'am who die in the city, the dogs will eat, and those who die in the field, the birds of the sky will eat, for יהוה has spoken.'

'So you, rise, go to your house. When your feet enter the city, the child will die.

And all Yisra'el shall mourn for him and bury him, for he alone of Yarov'am's household will come to a grave, because something good was found in him concerning יהוה, the Elohim of Yisra'el, in the house of Yarov'am.

And יהוה will raise up for himself a king over Yisra'el who will cut off the house of Yarov'am this very day. But what about now?

And יהוה will strike Yisra'el, like a reed is shaken in the water, and He will uproot Yisra'el from this good land which He gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River, because they have made their Asherah poles, provoking יהוה.

And He will give Yisra'el up because of the sins of Yarov'am, which he committed and by which he made Yisra'el sin.'

And the wife of Yarov'am rose and went and came to Tirzah. As she came to the threshold of the house, the boy died.

And they buried him, and all Yisra'el mourned for him, according to the word of יהוה, which He spoke by the hand of His servant Aḥiyah the prophet.

And the rest of the deeds of Yarov'am, how he fought and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Yisra'el.

And the days that Yarov'am reigned were twenty-two years, and he lay down with his fathers, and Nadav, his son, reigned in his place.

And Reḥav'am, son of Shelomoh, reigned in Yehudah. Reḥav'am was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Yerushalayim, the city which יהוה had chosen out of all the tribes of Yisra'el to put His name there. And the name of his mother was Na'amah the Ammonite.

And Yehudah did evil in the eyes of יהוה, and they provoked Him to jealousy more than all that their fathers had done, by their sins which they sinned.

And they also built for themselves high places, and pillars, and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree.

And there were also male cult prostitutes in the land. They did according to all the abominations of the nations which יהוה had dispossessed before the sons of Yisra'el.

And it happened in the fifth year of King Reḥav'am, that Shishak, king of Mitsrayim, came up against Yerushalayim.

And he took the treasures of the house of יהוה and the treasures of the king's house. He took everything, and he took all the golden shields which Shelomoh had made.

And King Reḥav'am made bronze shields in their place, and entrusted them to the hand of the captains of the runners who guarded the entrance of the king's house.

And it happened, whenever the king went to the house of יהוה, the runners would carry them and bring them back to the runners' chamber.

And the rest of the deeds of Reḥav'am, and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Yehudah?

And there was war between Reḥav'am and Yarov'am all their days.

And Reḥav'am lay down with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And the name of his mother was Na'amah the Ammonite. And Aviyam, his son, reigned in his place.
