And all Yisra'el gathered themselves to David in Ḥevron, saying, 'Look, we are your bone and your flesh.'

And also yesterday and the day before, when Sha'ul was king, it was you who led out and brought in Yisra'el. And יהוה your Elohim said to you, 'You shall shepherd my people Yisra'el, and you shall be ruler over my people Yisra'el.'

And all the elders of Yisra'el came to the king in Ḥevron, and David made a covenant with them in Ḥevron before יהוה, and they anointed David king over Yisra'el, according to the word of יהוה by the hand of Shemu'el.

And David and all Yisra'el went to Yerushalayim, which is Yevus, and there were the Yevusites, the inhabitants of the land.

And the inhabitants of Yevus said to David, 'You shall not come in here.' But David captured the stronghold of Tsiyon, which is the city of David.

And David said, 'Whoever strikes the Yevusites first shall be chief and commander.' And Yo'av son of Tsruyah went up first, and he was chief.

And David lived in the stronghold; therefore it was called the city of David.

And he built the city all around from the Millo and inward, and Yo'av repaired the rest of the city.

And David went on and became greater, and יהוה Tzeva'ot was with him.

And these are the chiefs of the mighty men who belonged to David, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, with all Yisra'el, to make him king, according to the word of יהוה concerning Yisra'el.

And these are the numbers of the mighty men who belonged to David: Yashov'am son of Ḥakmoni, chief of the Thirty; he lifted up his spear against three hundred men and killed them at one time.

And after him was El'azar son of Dodo the Aḥoḥite, he was among the three mighty men.

He was with David at Pas Damim, and the Pelishtim had gathered there for battle, and there was a plot of land full of barley, and the people fled from the Pelishtim.

And they took their stand in the middle of the plot, and they rescued it, and they struck down the Pelishtim, and יהוה brought a great deliverance.

And three of the Thirty went down to the rock to David, to the cave of Adullam, and the camp of the Pelishtim was encamped in the valley of Repha'im.

And David was then in the stronghold, and a garrison of the Pelishtim was then in Bethlehem.

And David longed and said, 'Oh, that someone would give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem that is by the gate!'

And the three broke through the camp of the Pelishtim, and drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate, and they carried it and brought it to David. But David refused to drink it; he poured it out to יהוה.

And he said, 'Far be it from me, my Elohim, to do this! Shall I drink the blood of these men with their lives? For with their lives they brought it.' And he refused to drink it. These things the three mighty men did.

And Abishai, Yo'av's brother, he was chief of the Three, and he lifted up his spear against three hundred men and killed them, and he had a name among the Three.

From the Three he was more honored, and he became their captain, but he did not reach the first Three.

Benayah son of Yehoyada, son of a man of great deeds, from Qabze'el, he struck down the two mighty men of Mo'av. He also went down and killed a lion inside a pit on a snowy day.

And he struck down an Egyptian man, a man five cubits tall, and in the Egyptian's hand was a spear like a weaver's beam. And he went down to him with a staff and snatched the spear from the Egyptian's hand and killed him with his own spear.

These things Benayah son of Yehoyada did, and he had a name among the three mighty men.

He was more honored than the Thirty, but he did not reach the Three, and David appointed him over his guard.

And the mighty men of the forces were: Asa'el, Yo'av's brother; Elḥanan son of Dodo from Bethlehem;

Shammoth the Harorite; Ḥelez the Pelonite;

Yo'el, Yo'av's brother; [or, Yo'el son of Yishiyah the Gilonite]; Benaiah the Pirathonite;

Ḥurai from the wadis of Ga'ash; Abi'el the Arbathite;

Azmaveth the Baḥarumite; Eliyaḥba the Sha'albonite;

The sons of Ḥashem the Gizonite; Yonatan son of Shageh the Hararite;

Aḥi'am son of Sacar the Hararite; Elipelet son of Urr;

Ḥefer the Mekerathite; Aḥiyah the Pelonite;

Ḥezro the Carmelite; Na'arai son of Ezbai;

Yo'el, Nathan's brother; Ba'arah son of the Gerite;

Zelek the Ammonite; Naḥarai the Beerothite, Yo'av son of Tsruyah's armor-bearer;

Yira the Yithrite; Gareb the Yithrite;

Uriyah the Hittite; all thirty-seven.

And these are the names of the mighty men whom David had, and their companions: Zelek the Ammonite, Naḥarai the Beerothite, Yo'av son of Tsruyah's armor-bearer.

Yira the Yithrite, Gareb the Yithrite, Uriyah the Hittite; thirty-seven in all.

Uriyah the Hittite, Zavad son of Aḥlai;

Adina son of Shiza the Reubenite, chief of the Reubenites, and with him were thirty.

Ḥanan son of Ma'akah, and Yoshaphat the Mitnite;

ʻUziy'a the Ashtorathite, Shama and Ye'i'el the sons of Ḥotam the Aro'erite;

Yedi'el son of Shimri, and Yoḥa his brother the Tizi;

Eli'el the Maḥavite, and Yerivai and יהוה, sons of Elna'am, and Yitmah the Mo'abite;

Eli'el, and Oved, and Ya'asiel the Metsobite.
