The word of יהוה that came to Hoshea son of Beeri in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah, kings of Yehudah, and in the days of Jeroboam son of Joash, king of Yisra'el.

The beginning of יהוה speaking by Hoshea. And יהוה said to Hoshea, 'Go, take for yourself a wife of whoredom and children of whoredom, for the land commits great whoredom, turning away from יהוה.'

So he went and took Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son.

And יהוה said to him, 'Call his name Jezreel, for yet a little while, and I will punish the house of Jehu for the blood of Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of the house of Yisra'el.'

'And it will be on that day, I will break the bow of Yisra'el in the Valley of Jezreel.'

And she conceived again and bore a daughter. And he said to him, 'Call her name Lo-Ruhamah, for I will no longer have mercy on the house of Yisra'el, that I should forgive them.'

'But I will have mercy on the house of Yehudah, and I will save them by יהוה their Elohim. I will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by war, nor by horses, nor by horsemen.'

And when she had weaned Lo-Ruhamah, she conceived and bore a son.

And he said, 'Call his name Lo-Ammi, for you are not my people, and I will not be your Elohim.'
