I will stand on my watch and set myself on the rampart, and I will watch to see what יהוה will speak to me, and what I will answer concerning my reproof.

And יהוה answered me and said, Write the vision, and make it clear on tablets, so that a runner may read it.

For the vision is yet for an appointed time, and it hastens toward the end, and will not lie. If it tarries, wait for it, because it will surely come, it will not delay.

Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright in him. But the righteous one by his faithfulness will live.

Moreover, wine betrays the arrogant man; he does not remain at home. He enlarges his desire like Sheol, and he is like death and cannot be satisfied. And he gathers to himself all the nations and collects to himself all the peoples.

Will not all of these take up a proverb against him, and a taunting riddle against him, and say, 'Woe to him who increases what is not his! How long? And to him who loads himself with pledges!'

Will not your creditors suddenly rise up, and your tormentors awaken, and you become plunder for them?

Because you have plundered many nations, all the remaining peoples will plunder you, because of bloodshed and violence to the land, to the city and all who dwell in it.

Woe to him who gets greedy for gain for his household, to set his nest high, to be delivered from the hand of disaster!

You have devised shame for your household by cutting off many peoples, and have sinned against your own life.

For the stone will cry out from the wall, and the beam from the woodwork will answer it.

Woe to him who builds a city with bloodshed and establishes a town with iniquity!

Behold, is it not from יהוה of hosts that the peoples labor for fire, and the nations weary themselves for emptiness?

For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of יהוה as the waters cover the sea.

Woe to him who makes his neighbor drink, who pours out his fury until they are drunk, to look at their nakedness!

You are filled with shame instead of glory. Drink yourself, and be uncircumcised! The cup of the right hand of יהוה will turn against you, and utter shame will come upon your glory.

For the violence done to Lebanon will cover you, and the destruction of the beasts will make you tremble, because of bloodshed and violence to the land, to the city and all who dwell in it.

What profit is an idol when its maker has shaped it, a metal image and a teacher of lies? When its maker trusts in it to make mute idols?

Woe to him who says to wood, 'Awaken!' To a mute stone, 'Arise!' Can it teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath within it.

But יהוה is in his holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before him.
