And Adam knew Ḥavah his wife, and she conceived and bore Qayin, and she said, 'I have acquired a man with יהוה.'

And she again bore his brother, Hevel. And Hevel became a keeper of sheep, and Qayin became a tiller of the ground.

And it came to pass at the end of days, that Qayin brought from the fruit of the ground an offering to יהוה.

And Hevel also brought from the firstborn of his flock and from their fat. And יהוה looked with favor on Hevel and on his offering.

But on Qayin and on his offering He did not look with favor. And Qayin became very angry, and his face fell.

And יהוה said to Qayin, 'Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen?'

'If you do well, will there not be acceptance? But if you do not do well, sin crouches at the entrance. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.'

And Qayin said to Hevel his brother. And it came to pass when they were in the field, that Qayin rose up against Hevel his brother and killed him.

And יהוה said to Qayin, 'Where is Hevel your brother?' And he said, 'I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?'

And He said, 'What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying to Me from the ground.'

'And now, you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.'

'When you work the ground, it will no longer give you its strength. A wanderer and a fugitive you will be on the earth.'

And Qayin said to יהוה, 'My punishment is too great to bear.'

'Behold, you have driven me out today from the face of the ground, and from Your face I will be hidden. And I will be a wanderer and a fugitive on the earth, and it will be that whoever finds me will kill me.'

And יהוה said to him, 'Therefore, whoever kills Qayin, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold.' And יהוה put a sign on Qayin, so that whoever found him would not strike him.

And Qayin went out from the presence of יהוה and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.

And Qayin knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Ḥanokh. And he became a builder of a city, and he called the name of the city after the name of his son, Ḥanokh.

And to Ḥanokh was born Irad, and Irad bore Meḥi'el, and Meḥi'el bore Methushael, and Methushael bore Lamekh.

And Lamekh took for himself two wives. The name of the one was Adah, and the name of the second was Tsillah.

And Adah bore Yaval. He was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock.

And the name of his brother was Yuval. He was the father of all who handle the lyre and the pipe.

And Tsillah also bore Tubal-Qayin, the forger of all implements of bronze and iron. And the sister of Tubal-Qayin was Naamah.

And Lamekh said to his wives, Adah and Tsillah, 'Hear my voice, wives of Lamekh; give ear to my words, for I have killed a man for my wound, and a young man for my bruise.'

'For Qayin will be avenged sevenfold, but Lamekh seventy-sevenfold.'

And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and called his name Sheth, saying, 'Elohim has appointed for me another seed in place of Hevel, because Qayin killed him.'

And to Sheth also was born a son, and he called his name Enosh. Then it was begun to call on the name of יהוה.
