Avram went up from Mitsrayim, he and his wife and all that belonged to him, and Lot with him, to the Negev.

And Avram was very wealthy in livestock, in silver, and in gold.

And he went on his journeys from the Negev, and as far as Beit-El, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beit-El and between Ha'Ay.

To the place of the altar which he had made there at the first, and there Avram called on the name of יהוה.

And also to Lot, who went with Avram, there were flocks and herds and tents.

And the land was not able to carry them, so they could live together, because their possessions were many, and they could not live together.

And there was a dispute between the shepherds of Avram's livestock and between the shepherds of Lot's livestock, and the Kena'ani and the Prizzi were then dwelling in the land.

And Avram said to Lot, 'Please, let there not be a dispute between me and between you, and between my shepherds and between your shepherds, because we are brothers.'

'Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself, please, from me. If you go to the left, then I will go to the right, and if you go to the right, then I will go to the left.'

And Lot lifted up his eyes and saw all the plain of the Yarden, because it was all watered before יהוה destroyed Sedom and 'Amorah, like the garden of יהוה, like the land of Mitsrayim, as you go to Tz'o'ar.

And Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Yarden, and Lot journeyed from the east, and they separated, each from his brother.

Avram lived in the land of Kena'an, and Lot lived in the cities of the plain, and he pitched his tent as far as Sedom.

And the people of Sedom were wicked and sinners against יהוה exceedingly.

And יהוה said to Avram, after Lot had separated from him, 'Please lift up your eyes and see from the place where you are, to the north and to the south and to the east and to the west.'

'Because all the land which you see, to you I will give it, and to your offspring forever.'

'And I will make your offspring like the dust of the land, so that if a person can count the dust of the land, then your offspring also will be counted.'

'Arise, walk through the land in its length and in its width, because to you I will give it.'

And Avram pitched his tent, and he came and lived by the terebinths of Mamre, which are in Ḥevron, and there he built an altar to יהוה.
