And men from the elders of Yisra'el came to me and sat before me.

And the word of יהוה came to me, saying:

Son of man, these men have lifted their idols to their heart, and their stumbling block of iniquity they have set before their faces. Should I be inquired of by them?

Therefore speak to them and say to them, Thus says Adonai יהוה: Every man of the house of Yisra'el who lifts his idols to his heart, and sets the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet, I, יהוה, will answer him according to the multitude of his idols.

So that I may seize the house of Yisra'el by their heart, because they have turned away from me with all their idols.

Therefore say to the house of Yisra'el, Thus says Adonai יהוה: Return and turn away from your idols, and turn away from all your abominations.

For every man of the house of Yisra'el, and of the stranger who sojourns in Yisra'el, who turns away from following me, and lifts his idols to his heart, and sets the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet to inquire of me, I, יהוה, will answer him by myself.

And I will set my face against that man, and make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people. And you shall know that I am יהוה.

And if the prophet is deceived and speaks a word, I, יהוה, have deceived that prophet. And I will stretch out my hand against him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Yisra'el.

And they shall bear their iniquity; the iniquity of the inquirer shall be like the iniquity of the prophet.

So that the house of Yisra'el may no longer go astray from me, nor defile themselves any more with all their transgressions. And they shall be to me for a people, and I will be to them for Elohim, declares Adonai יהוה.

And the word of יהוה came to me, saying:

Son of man, when a land sins against me by trespassing, and I stretch out my hand against it, and break the staff of bread for it, and send famine into it, and cut off from it man and beast.

Even if these three men, Noaḥ, Dani'el, and Iyov, were in its midst, by their righteousness they would deliver their own lives, declares Adonai יהוה.

If I cause a wild beast to pass through the land, and it bereaves it, and it becomes desolate so that no one passes through because of the beast.

These three men in its midst, as I live, declares Adonai יהוה, though they were sons or daughters, they would deliver only themselves, and the land would become desolate.

Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Let the sword pass through the land, and I cut off from it man and beast.

And these three men in its midst, as I live, declares Adonai יהוה, they would deliver neither sons nor daughters; they alone would be delivered.

Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my wrath upon it with blood, to cut off from it man and beast.

And Noaḥ, Dani'el, and Iyov were in its midst, as I live, declares Adonai יהוה, whether son or daughter, they would deliver their lives by their righteousness.

For thus says Adonai יהוה: Even when my four severe judgments, sword, famine, wild beast, and pestilence, I send upon Yerushalayim to cut off from it man and beast.

And behold, a remnant is left in it, those who are brought out, sons and daughters; behold, they are coming out to you. And you shall see their way and their doings, and you shall be comforted concerning the disaster that I have brought upon Yerushalayim, all that I have brought upon it.

And they shall comfort you when you see their way and their doings, and you shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, declares Adonai יהוה.
