And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying, 'Go, ascend from here, you and the people whom you brought up from the land of Mitsrayim, to the land which I swore to Avraham, to Yitsḥaq, and to Ya'aqov, saying, "To your seed I will give it."

'And I will send an angel before you, and I will drive out the Kena'ani, the Emori, and the Ḥiti, and the Perizi, the Ḥivi, and the Yevusi.'

'To a land flowing with milk and honey, for I will not ascend in your midst, because you are a people of stiff neck, lest I consume you on the way.'

'And the people heard this bad word, and they mourned, and no one put on his adornment for himself.'

'And יהוה said to Mosheh, "Say to the sons of Yisra'el, 'You are a people of stiff neck. In a moment I will ascend in your midst, and I will consume you. And now, take off your adornment from upon you, and I will know what I will do to you.'"'

'And the sons of Yisra'el stripped themselves of their adornment from Mount Ḥorev.'

'And Mosheh took the tent and pitched it for himself outside the camp, far from the camp, and he called it the Tent of Meeting. And it was, everyone seeking יהוה would go out to the Tent of Meeting which was outside the camp.'

'And it was, when Mosheh went out to the tent, all the people would rise and stand, each at the entrance of his tent, and they would look after Mosheh until he went into the tent.'

'And it was, when Mosheh went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent, and it would speak with Mosheh.'

'And all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, and all the people rose and bowed down, each at the entrance of his tent.'

'And יהוה spoke to Mosheh face to face, as a man speaks to his neighbor. And he would return to the camp, and his attendant Yehoshua the son of Nun, a youth, would not depart from inside the tent.'

'And Mosheh said to יהוה, "See, you say to me, 'Ascend with this people,' and you have not made known to me whom you will send with me. And you said, 'I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my eyes.'"'

'And now, if I have indeed found favor in your eyes, make known to me your way, that I may know you, so that I may find favor in your eyes. And see, this nation is your people."

'And He said, "My presence will go, and I will give you rest."

'And he said to Him, "If your presence does not go, do not cause us to ascend from here."

'And by what will it be known, then, that I and your people have found favor in your eyes? Is it not by your going with us? And we will be distinguished, I and your people, from all the people who are on the face of the earth."

'And יהוה said to Mosheh, "Also this thing which you have spoken I will do, for you have found favor in my eyes, and I know you by name."

'And he said, "Show me, please, your glory."

'And He said, "I will cause all my goodness to pass before your face, and I will call out the name of יהוה before you, and I will be gracious to whom I am gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion."

'And He said, "You cannot see my face, for no man can see me and live."

'And יהוה said, "Behold, there is a place with me, and you will stand upon the rock."

'And it will be, as my glory passes by, and I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and I will cover with my hand over you until I pass by."

'And I will remove my hand, and you will see my back, but my face will not be seen."
