And they journeyed from Elim, and all the assembly of the children of Yisra'el came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their going out from the land of Mitsrayim.

And all the assembly of the children of Yisra'el grumbled against Mosheh and against Aharon in the wilderness.

And the children of Yisra'el said to them, 'Who will give that we died by the hand of יהוה in the land of Mitsrayim, when we sat by the pot of meat, when we ate bread to satisfaction, because you have brought us out to this wilderness to kill all this assembly with hunger?'

And יהוה said to Mosheh, 'Behold, I am causing to rain bread for you from the heavens, and the people shall go out and gather the portion of a day in its day, so that I may test them, whether they will walk in my instruction or not.'

'And it shall be on the sixth day, and they shall prepare that which they bring in, and it shall be a double portion of what they gather day by day.'

And Mosheh and Aharon said to all the children of Yisra'el, 'In the evening, and you will know that יהוה is He who brought you out from the land of Mitsrayim.'

'And in the morning, and you will see the glory of יהוה, because He heard your grumblings against יהוה. And we, what are we, that you should grumble against us?'

And Mosheh said, 'This will be when יהוה gives you meat to eat in the evening, and bread in the morning to satisfy, because יהוה hears your grumblings which you grumble against Him. And we, what are we? Your grumblings are not against us, but against יהוה.'

And Mosheh said to Aharon, 'Say to all the assembly of the children of Yisra'el, 'Draw near before יהוה, for He has heard your grumblings.''

And it came to pass, as Aharon spoke to all the assembly of the children of Yisra'el, and they turned toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of יהוה appeared in the cloud.

And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying:

'I have heard the grumblings of the children of Yisra'el. Speak to them, saying, 'In the evening you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be satisfied with bread, and you shall know that I am יהוה your Elohim.''

And it came to pass in the evening, and quails came up and covered the camp, and in the morning there was a layer of dew around the camp.

And the layer of dew went up, and behold, on the face of the wilderness was a thin, flaky substance, thin like the frost on the ground.

And the children of Yisra'el saw, and they said one to another, 'What is it?' for they did not know what it was. And Mosheh said to them, 'It is the bread which יהוה has given you to eat.'

'This is the thing which יהוה has commanded: Gather from it, each man according to his eating, an omer per head, according to the number of your persons. Each man for those in his tent, you shall take.'

And the children of Yisra'el did so, and they gathered, the one who gathered much and the one who gathered little.

And they measured it with an omer, and the one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little; each man gathered according to his eating.

And Mosheh said to them, 'Let no man leave any of it over until morning.'

And they did not listen to Mosheh, and some men left some of it over until morning, and it bred worms and became foul, and Mosheh became angry with them.

And they gathered it morning by morning, each man according to his eating, and when the sun was hot, it melted.

And it came to pass on the sixth day, they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one. And all the chiefs of the assembly came and told Mosheh.

And he said to them, 'This is what יהוה spoke: Tomorrow is a day of rest, a holy Sabbath to יהוה. What you will bake, bake, and what you will boil, boil, and all that is left over, keep for yourselves for safekeeping until morning.'

And they kept it until morning, as Mosheh commanded, and it did not become foul, and no worms were in it.

And Mosheh said, 'Eat it today, for today is a Sabbath to יהוה; today you will not find it in the field.'

'For six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there shall be none.'

And it came to pass on the seventh day, some of the people went out to gather, and they did not find any.

And יהוה said to Mosheh, 'How long will you refuse to keep my commandments and my instructions?'

'See, for יהוה has given you the Sabbath; therefore He gives you on the sixth day bread for two days. Remain, each man under his place; let no man go out from his place on the seventh day.'

And the people rested on the seventh day.

And the house of Yisra'el called its name 'Man'. And it was like coriander seed, white, and its taste was like cakes with honey.

And Mosheh said, 'This is the thing which יהוה commanded: 'Fill an omer of it for safekeeping for your generations, so that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out from the land of Mitsrayim.''

And Mosheh said to Aharon, 'Take one jar, and put in it a full omer of man, and place it before יהוה for safekeeping for your generations.'

As יהוה commanded Mosheh, so Aharon placed it before the Testimony for safekeeping.

And the children of Yisra'el ate the man for forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate the man until they came to the border of the land of Kena'an.

And an omer is a tenth of an ephah.
