And it came to pass after Avimelekh, Tola son of Puah, son of Dido, a man of Yissasḵar, arose to save Yisra'el, and he was dwelling in Shamir, in the mountain of Efrayim.

And he judged Yisra'el twenty-three years, and he died, and he was buried in Shamir.

And Ya'ir the Gil'adi arose after him, and he judged Yisra'el twenty-two years.

And he had thirty sons riding on thirty young donkeys, and thirty towns belonged to them; they are called Havot Ya'ir until this day, which are in the land of Gil'ad.

And Ya'ir died, and he was buried in Qamon.

And the sons of Yisra'el again did evil in the eyes of יהוה, and they served the Ba'alim, and the 'Ashtarot, and the elohim of Aram, and the elohim of Tsidon, and the elohim of Mo'av, and the elohim of the sons of 'Ammon, and the elohim of the Pelishtim; and they abandoned יהוה and did not serve Him.

And the anger of יהוה burned against Yisra'el, and He sold them into the hand of the Pelishtim, and into the hand of the sons of 'Ammon.

And they crushed and oppressed the sons of Yisra'el in that year eighteen years, all the sons of Yisra'el who were across the Yarden in the land of the Emori, which is in Gil'ad.

And the sons of 'Ammon crossed the Yarden to fight also against Yehudah, and against Binyamin, and against the house of Efrayim; and Yisra'el was greatly distressed.

And the sons of Yisra'el cried out to יהוה, saying, 'We have sinned against You, because we have abandoned our Elohim and served the Ba'alim.'

And יהוה said to the sons of Yisra'el, 'Did I not save you from the Mitsrayim, and from the Emori, and from the sons of 'Ammon, and from the Pelishtim?'

And the Tsidonim, and 'Amalek, and Ma'on oppressed you, and you cried out to Me, and I saved you from their hand.

And you abandoned Me and served other elohim; therefore, I will not add to saving you.

Go and cry out to the elohim whom you chose; they will save you in the time of your distress.

And the sons of Yisra'el said to יהוה, 'We have sinned; do to us according to all that is good in Your eyes; only save us, please, this day.'

And they removed the foreign elohim from their midst and served יהוה, and His soul was grieved because of the suffering of Yisra'el.

And the sons of 'Ammon cried out, and encamped in Gil'ad, and the sons of Yisra'el gathered, and encamped in ha-Mitzpah.

And the people, the rulers of Gil'ad, said one to another, 'Who is the man who will begin to fight against the sons of 'Ammon? He will be for a head to all the inhabitants of Gil'ad.'
