Sunset was 8:45. We looked from about 9:00 p.m. to 9:30 and did not see the new crescent. There was some haze, but skies were mostly clear. RY

Therefore, the start of the 5th biblical month (Av) will begin at sunset today, Saturday, July 14, 2018.

Special thanks to Devorah Gordon and her team for their efforts to spot the new moon in Israel.

Easily visible when it was not obscured by clouds. On a clock face, oriented from 2 to 7. RY (1 observer)

With heavy cloud cover to the west, we were doubtful of being able to sight the crescent. However, beginning at 9:12 pm, the nice, clear crescent began to peek between the clouds and was visible for approximately 20 minutes. WI (5 observers)
